Job Description


Job Responsibilities:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY:

  • Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
  • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation, and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
  • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
  • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
CUSTOMERS:
  • Interact with customers and familiarise yourself with operational concerns and any inherent peculiarities
  • Ensure customer satisfaction.
Supplier Relations:
  • Liaise with HR suppliers.
BUSINESS PROCESSES:

Policies and Procedures:
  • Update, develop and implement ER policies, procedures, standards, protocols, work instructions, codes of practice, etc. in line with Corporate policies.
Industrial/Employee Relations:
  • Support the HR Manager in the management of employee relations
  • Preparing and attending disciplinary cases on site
  • Provide IR guidance during a counselling /disciplinary / grievance hearing
  • All administration and record keeping with regards to disciplinary cases held
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly tracking of abseentism and sick leave abuse
  • Assist with operational ER issues by initiating and advising on disciplinary action to be taken where required
  • Supporting mine management in ensuring that discipline is applied consistently
  • Training of supervisors and relevant employees on IR policies and procedures
  • Advise HR and Management in line with labour legislation and policies
  • Monitor the ER climate at BU
  • Identify and monitor ER trends across BU and report/advise management
  • Coach/guide managers and supervisors on first-line discipline matters
  • Ensure compliance by all parties to the Disciplinary Policy and Legislation at disciplinary/grievance hearings
  • Facilitate the resolution of employee grievances
  • Assist with the preparation of cases referred for litigation
  • Represent the Company at the CCMA when necessary
  • Handle day to day conflict, queries and discipline
  • Coordinate union activities at Shaft level
  • Coordinate Shaft Partnership Forum meetings and take minutes thereof
  • Any ad hoc HR/ ER related tasks.
IR/ER Administration:
  • Capture disciplinary events on SAP IR info type
  • Scan through of all ER related documentation
  • Record and report disciplinary statistics
  • ER Monthly Reports.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • Grade12/ N3
  • Degree or National Diploma in Human Resources /Labour Law or equivalent qualification
  • 5 years relevant Mining related experience, preferable 2 years supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (Act 75 of 1997)
  • Demonstrate and apply an understanding of the Labour Relations Act (Act 66 of 1995)
  • Demonstrate and apply the understanding of the CCMA rules
