Job Purpose
Support the effective day-to-day operation of the HR department by managing HR administration, employee relations, payroll processing, training coordination, recruitment, and ensuring compliance with labour legislation and company policies.
Requirements
Qualifications Needed
Grade 12 with Mathematics.
Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Personnel Management, or a related field.
HR/Payroll certifications such as Sage Payroll (advantageous).
Experience/Skills
Minimum 4 years of relevant HR experience.
CCMA exposure is required.
Knowledge of labour legislation: BCEA, LRA, WCA.
Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
Experience using Sage Payroll and timekeeping systems (advantageous).
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality and professionalism.
Experience in or knowledge of HR practices within the fishing industry will be an advantage.
Responsibilities
Strong administrative background with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Sound understanding of HR processes, payroll input, and employment law.
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
High attention to detail and accuracy in all HR functions.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Proactive, dependable, and able to work under pressure.
Coordinate training programs and certification processes to ensure all relevant personnel remain compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
Verify that all shore-based and vessel-bound personnel possess up-to-date certifications and qualifications in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Consolidate wage-related data and ensure timely submission to the payroll department.
Key Responsibilities
Manage crew onboarding per vessel, ensuring all competency documents, medical certificates, and pension information are accurately collected and filed before departure.
Maintain and update employee files and HR records.
Ensure payroll is submitted on time and accurately as per company policy.
Respond to and resolve general HR and salary-related queries.
Assist with onboarding and induction of new employees.
Coordinate recruitment activities according to company procedures.
Support and initiate disciplinary hearings and grievance procedures when required.
Manage HR communications internally.
Organize and coordinate training programs; upload training records to the shared drive.
Administer IOD cases and complete online reporting.
Draft HR policies and job descriptions.
Compile and submit monthly and ad hoc reports to meet set deadlines.
