We're looking for a dynamic HR Officer to act as Second-in-Command (2IC) to the HR Manager at a leading manufacturing company based in Cape Town.
This role is ideal for someone who can operate independently, handle complex IR matters, and
serve as a key partner to the HR Manager across operational HR functions.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as 2IC to the HR Manager, supporting with day-to-day HR operations and acting in the HR Manager's absence when required.
Manage and oversee employee relations and disciplinary processes in line with labour legislation and company policies.
Represent the employer at the Dispute Resolution Centre (MIBCO), including conciliations and arbitrations.
Build and maintain effective relationships with shop stewards and union officials, supporting collective bargaining and consultative processes.
Assist in implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with operational goals and compliance
requirements.
Support workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and training initiatives.
Ensure compliance with MIBCO Main Agreement and statutory obligations.
Provide coaching and guidance to line managers on HR and IR best practices.
Requirements
A Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or a related field.
Minimum 5 years' experience in HR, with at least 3 years' IR/ER experience in a unionised manufacturing environment.
Solid knowledge of South African labour law and MIBCO Main Agreement, as well as experience representing the employer in disputes.
Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and discretion.
Proficient in MS Office and HRIS systems.
