Our client based in Upper Eastside is seeking an experienced HR / Payroll Officer to join their dynamic Human Resources team. This role requires a highly organised individual with strong payroll expertise, sound knowledge of South African labour legislation, and the ability to manage multiple HR functions with precision and confidentiality.
Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years HR experience in a similar administrative or generalist capacity
  • Strong payroll experience with hands-on experience using PaySpace (essential)
  • Experience working with Time & Attendance systems
  • Sound understanding of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA, OHSA, etc.)
  • Excellent administrative, coordination, and organisational skills
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Professional grooming and presentation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to prioritise, multitask, and meet deadlines
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism
Advantageous
  • HR Diploma or related qualification
  • Experience with Employment Equity administration and reporting
  • Experience with EMP501 submissions to SARS
Key Responsibilities
HR Administration & Recruitment Support
  • Provide comprehensive HR administrative support across all HR functions
  • Assist with the full recruitment process
  • Draft and issue appointment and onboarding documentation, including:
  • Letters of Offer
  • Employment Contracts
  • EEA1 Forms
  • Medical Questionnaires
  • New Employee Documentation
  • Ensure accurate completion and filing of all onboarding documentation
  • Maintain and update employee records, personnel files, and HR databases
Employee Lifecycle & Documentation
  • Schedule and facilitate probationary meetings where required
  • Draft HR-related documentation, including:
  • Salary increase letters
  • Promotion letters
  • Bonus letters
  • Advance / loan agreements
  • General employee correspondence
  • Assist with the performance review process
  • Support disciplinary and grievance processes through accurate documentation and record-keeping
Payroll & Compliance
  • Oversee the Time & Attendance system
  • Process monthly payroll input accurately and within required deadlines
  • Prepare payroll reports as required
  • Submit mid-year and year-end EMP501 reconciliations to SARS
  • Issue IRP5 certificates to employees
  • Administer employee benefits (risk cover, pension, medical insurance)
Leave & Benefits Administration
  • Manage leave administration and reporting
  • Assist departments with leave planning
  • Capture leave on payroll systems and maintain accurate records
  • Track leave patterns and generate reports
Employment Equity & Statutory Compliance
  • Administer Employment Equity reporting and coordinate EE Committee meetings
  • Manage Workmens Compensation reporting, including:
  • IOD reporting
  • Return of Earnings
  • COIDA Letters of Good Standing
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation
Operational Support
  • Coordinate staff transport arrangements with the transport provider and internal departments
  • Foster positive employee relations
  • Uphold company values in all interactions
