About Strategic Risk Management
Strategic Risk Management (SRM) is a business-critical department in Discovery Health, holding the responsibility for ensuring sustainable and equitable management of scheme funds to deliver patient care. It houses multiple teams of experts in clinical, actuarial, and managerial roles all striving to gain the highest value for members who need care. SRM is a fast paced, highly visible and complex area of healthcare management with opportunities for executive visibility, external client engagement and innovation.
Key Purpose
To oversee the hospital contracting strategy and implementation, encompassing commercial contracting for hospitals, acute hospitals, day hospitals, sub-acute hospitals, psychiatric facilities including in-facility procured items reimbursed by the Schemes. This role entails owning Discovery Health's hospital contracting strategy and its execution, owning the relevant relationships, leading negotiations in commercial matters, ensuring the effective implementation of contracts and drafting the commercial terms to deliver on Discovery Health's mandate.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to:
Manage contracting strategy across hospitals, day hospitals and other facilities
Schemes spend and savings covered in this portfolio as follows:
+ R39bn (of which ~R28bn is hospital spend) of Scheme spend equivalent to ~60% of Scheme spend.
+ Designing and contracting on the hospital networks to lower the cost of care.
+ Drive sustainable annual tariff increases with contracting parties
+ Maintain provider engagements aligned with business strategy.
+ Design and negotiate contract terms with corporate service providers at the executive level.
+ Oversee analytical contracting models.
+ Ensure that all stakeholders adhere to contractual obligations and all administrative matters pertaining to contracts are completed.
+ Enforce adherence to SLAs by internal stakeholders and contracted parties.
+ Consult on legal matters pertaining to contract management.
+ Keep abreast with relevant legislation and ensure that all stakeholders understand implications.
+ Work collaboratively with other Discovery divisions.

Matric/Grade 12 qualification
Honors Degree (Clinical/Commercial)
5 -10 years' relevant industry experience within contracting and or strategic sourcing ideally in the healthcare industry.
Senior Stakeholder Management experience
Significant experience in the healthcare industry and understanding of the key business and clinical issues.
Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills
Presentation skills
Innovative / Ideas driven
Advantageous/Preferred Experience and Knowledge:
Relevant Master's degree (Clinical/ Commercial)
Managed Care Experience
1-2 years Leadership experience
Knowledge of Discovery Health products
