ABOUT THE ROLE

The Hose Technician at BMG South Africa is responsible for the assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial hoses and fittings used in various applications across industries. Reporting to the Hose Shop Supervisor, the Hose Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, performance, and safety of hose systems for BMG's customers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication

Represent the company in all forms of communication, maintaining good working relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, external suppliers, and clients. Respond to and follow up on all enquiries by email, telephone and personal visits as required. Responsibility for building and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrate a strong customer service focus and quality communication and output in all interactions with key stakeholders and external contacts

Hose Assembly

Assemble hoses and fittings according to specifications, standards, and customer requirements. Select appropriate hoses, connectors, and fittings based on application, pressure, temperature, and media compatibility.

Hose Installation

Install hose assemblies and systems on machinery, equipment, and vehicles in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices. Ensure proper routing, alignment, and connection of hoses to optimize performance and longevity.

Hose Inspection

Perform visual and dimensional inspections of hoses, fittings, and assemblies to detect signs of wear, damage, or deterioration. Identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions to prevent failures and downtime.

Hose Testing

Conduct pressure tests, leak tests, and performance tests on hose assemblies to verify integrity, functionality, and compliance with specifications. Record test results and document findings for quality assurance and traceability.

Hose Maintenance

Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements of hoses, fittings, and connectors as needed to ensure continuous operation and reliability. Lubricate, clean, and protect hose assemblies to prolong service life and prevent premature failure

Customer Service

Interact with customers to understand their hose requirements, provide technical assistance, and offer recommendations on hose selection, installation, and maintenance. Address customer inquiries, concerns, and requests in a prompt and professional manner

Safety Compliance

Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations while handling, installing, and servicing hoses. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to minimize risks and prevent accidents or injuries

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of hose assemblies, installations, inspections, and repairs. Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

National Certificate NQF4 level. Technical certification or training in hose assembly and maintenance 1is preferred. Proven experience (2-3 years) as a hose technician or similar role in an industrial environment. Strong knowledge of hoses, fittings, connectors, and hydraulic systems. Familiarity with hose assembly techniques, crimping methods, and tools. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and diagrams. Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity for handling hoses and fittings. Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, assembly, and documentation. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally for on-site installations or service calls
