Job Summary THE ROLE
We are looking for a hands-on Junior Health and Safety (OHS / SHE) Officer to actively lead and implement health and safety practices across our production and fulfilment operations.
This is not an administrative or purely coordinating role. The successful candidate will be expected to physically action safety-related tasks, perform inspections, follow up on issues, and take ownership of
day-to-day site safety. This is a role for a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to be on the factory floor, making things happen.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To actively drive and maintain a safe working environment through the hands-on implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental programs, in compliance with regulations and company policies.
SUCCESS OUTCOMES

  • Personally conduct and document workplace inspections and hazard identifications.
  • Take ownership of implementing corrective actions to resolve identified risks.
  • Lead first aid responses and file IODs, including relevant reporting and follow-up.
  • Facilitate (and sometimes deliver) inductions and SHE-related training.
  • Perform fire safety and evacuation drills and maintain all emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers).
  • Ensure daily compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993 and all other applicable standards and bylaws.
  • Maintain and update the SHE management system in alignment with ISO 45001 (or 18001) standards.
  • Lead the physical implementation of safe operating procedures on the factory floor.
  • Order and monitor PPE availability and ensure it is provided and correctly used by all staff.
  • Keep stock of H&S consumables and physically manage restocking.
  • Be the visible H&S presence on the factory floor and in workshops.
  • Participate in or lead safety committee meetings and coordination with external bodies (e.g., LabourNet, inspectors, etc.).

  • High attention to detail.
  • Competent in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Able to manage small tasks independently and track budgets (e.g., PPE stock)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Diploma or Degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or Environmental Management).
  • At least 1 year of experience in a practical safety role (internships may count).
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
