Job Description

Seeking an experienced health and safety officer for a manufacturing environment to ensure processes and practices keep in step to the commitments to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

• Occupational Health & Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations.
• To provide SHER expertise, guidance and support by developing programmes, policies and procedures to prevent and control any environmental aspects and impacts.
• Coordinate and improve SHER performance reports and administer systems

Main Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all incidents relevant to SHER are reported, investigated, corrected and learnings disseminated.
• Ensure that all relevant environmental authorizations operating licenses/permits are applied for and are up-to-date and compliance to conditions are monitored.
• Ensure the company is compliant with all applicable SHER legislation and other requirements to which the company subscribes.
• Monitor SHER performance by gathering relevant data and producing statical reports.
• Ensure that all legal appointments are in place in terms of applicable legislation.
• Develop and maintain the occupational health management and monitoring programme.
• Manage all SHER site surveys, audits and assessments.
• Drive the culture of quality, health, safety and environment by raising awareness of SHEQ throughout the site through various initiatives, communication plans and training.
• Manage all SHER related training requirements.
• Assess the site current sustainability performance, identify and prioritize the site key sustainability strategies, i.e., drive energy efficiencies, resource recovery, reduce waste and increase efficiencies, etc.
• Responsible for developing adequate plans/ controls to prevent pollution, respond to emergencies and ensure business continuity.
• Ensure compliance with system and operational protocols, policies, and procedures at site.
• The ongoing Review of the Compliance for implementation of/and compliance to Standard Operating
• Procedures (SOP's) as means to ensure operational excellence.
• Provide detailed audit reports with findings. Identify non-conformities and provide corrective action measures to prevent re-occurrence.
• Monitor and review those corrective measures that have been implemented.
• Maintain and enhance internal and external customer and contractor relations.
• Need to liaise with the team on all initiatives throughout the business and accurately reporting on the reduction of the carbon footprint, GHG, NAEIS etc
