Job Purpose:

The Head of Schoolxe2x80x93Law is accountable for the academic leadership and building the academic capacity of a school of discipline (and associated basket of programmes) for the brand across its campuses as part of the faculty structure of Rosebank College. Responsible for forging and strengthening links with external partners, industry, and the relevant profession to grow the brand's academic credibility, gravitas and student growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Academic Management

  • Develop, implement and align the strategic plan for the faculty as aligned to the Institutional strategy.
  • Provide academic leadership for the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing professional development (CPD) of the faculty if applicable.
  • Review and implement changes to the existing programme's curriculum in collaboration with the IIE Central Academic Team (CAT)
  • Contribute to/or assist in developing new programmes in collaboration with The Central Academic Team Heads of Programme for accreditation and curriculum material development in the cognate area.
  • Manage and lead the interface with the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) within the faculty discipline.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders (i.e., blended learning) in the cognate area of the faculty based on current industry and research trends.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to design an appropriate teaching model for the school to provide optimal curriculum delivery, teaching, learning and assessment delivery.
  • Provide leadership to plan resource allocation for all aspects of running a successful programme, e.g., Law Careers Fair, training contracts, and training.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the cognate area, e.g., Smartboards, Learning Management Systems (LMS) training and other relevant technology-based applications.
  • Coordination of discipline specialists across campuses, e.g., Module Discipline Leader (MDL support)
  • Provide specialist knowledge and support in developing a fact sheet for the faculty.
  • Actively teach or supervise to exemplify best teaching practices, including scholarly activities such as setting and marking assessments as required.
Academic Leadership
  • Review, develop and implement the curriculum and syllabus for the selected programmes or modules.
  • Act as the interface between the IIE Head of Faculty and National and Campus Academic teams and, where applicable, the Academic Operations teams
  • Identify module developers in collaboration with the IIE CAT Operations Team and, as required, brief the developer.
  • Assist in the identification of external moderators in collaboration with the IIE CAT Operations Team
  • Collaborate with the Research Manager to ensure that the faculty's research output contributes to attaining university status.
  • Participate in critical IIE governance structures and committees.
Professional Relationship Management
  • Act as the Brand Ambassador to external stakeholders in the profession and partnership-building
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry in the profession, including industry placements of students, sponsorships and professional expertise.
  • Lead academic positioning of Rosebank College professional training and development for the world of work.
  • Participate in professional and scholarly activities, e.g., Society of Law Teachers, Conference Papers, and Higher Degree Studies
  • Serve as the key liaison with professional and academic partners in the cognate area where required.
  • Represent Rosebank College on external partner faculty boards, committees, and professional bodies.
  • Facilitate compliance with partners' and provider's policies, regulations, and procedures.
Campus Support
  • Work with the campus Programme Manager and support the development of that role at each campus.
  • Implement a formal communication structure within the faculty, at a campus level through the Programme Manager
  • Support the campuses in recruiting, selecting, approving and developing the teaching team in the cognate area.
  • Communicate with the campuses on new developments, recommendations and trends and facilitate troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with the various functions within the student experience teams to ensure the faculty is represented appropriately in campus initiatives.
  • Provide support relating to issues and escalations that may impact the faculty.
Reporting and Analytics
  • Compile learning analytics reports on studentsxe2x80x99 academic results, throughput rates, progression rates, graduation and completion rates across campuses for the faculty.
  • Provide support and guidance on appropriate interventions as per the analytics results.
People Management
  • Driving a high-performance culture by taking accountability for an effective and well-articulated performance management process
  • Conduct performance reviews following policies and procedures and take corrective actions where necessary.
  • Providing strategic guidance in the implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practices
  • Lead the department by managing appointments, promotions, and industrial relations issues in conjunction with the Human Resources Support Service Unit
  • Builds a robust, effective leadership pipeline, succession, and capacity.
Minimum Requirements:

Qualification
  • Masterxe2x80x99s degree/ Masterxe2x80x99s degree (Professional) (NQF level 9) in Law (LLM)
Advantageous
  • PhD in the respective area of Law (LLD)
  • Attorney or Advocatexe2x80x93 3 xe2x80x93 5 years
Experience
  • Previous lecturing experience xe2x80x93 5 years
Advantageous
  • Previous education management experience
  • Practicing Attorney or Advocate experience xe2x80x93 3 xe2x80x93 5 years
  • Board Certified and registered with Legal Practitioners Council
Legal
  • Driverxe2x80x99s license
