Head of Safety Engineering ~ Mining/Minerals/Metals ~ Manufacturing
Johannesburg - Gauteng - South Africa

Join our clients business as the Head of Safety and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of their operation.

Qualifications:

  • Applicable B-Degree discipline based (NQF 8) and
preferably a Management Development Program
  • A relevant qualification in Safety/Contract Management,
and Certification in OHSAS 18000 will be advantageous
  • Relevant qualification in Quality Management and
Certified Quality Auditor status will be an advantage

Knowledge and Experience:
  • 8 years of relevant working experience
  • Sound Health, Safety, and Wellness knowledge and
exposure within an industrial environment
  • Good understanding of relevant operational processes
  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Able to formulate strategies and business goals within a
heavy engineering environment
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, SAP modules, and related
software programs)
  • Sound business acumen and an ability to think
strategically
  • Analytical, benchmarking, problem-solving, and
coordination skills

Key Performance Areas:
  • Development and implementation of Safety, Health, and
Wellness strategies for our recruitment company
  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of Safety,
Health, and Wellness programs to ensure compliance and

promote a safe working environment
  • Serve as a liaison between company,clients and relevant
regulatory bodies
  • Advise management on government regulations relating
to Safety and Health and recommend necessary actions

to attain compliance
  • Identify safety/health hazards inherent in our operations
and establish guidelines for protection from those

hazards
  • Audit existing programs for compliance with industry
standards, government regulations, and adequacy

relative to local conditions
  • Monitor existing and potential concerns and recommend
priorities for resolution
  • Coordinate necessary resources for the successful
implementation of identified programs
  • Analyze periodic performance reports for trends and
conditions and provide insights to management
  • Investigate incidents and recommend preventative
measures
  • Provide guidance in the development of training and
awareness programs
  • Report on our company's Safety and Health performance
and develop initiatives to improve safety culture
  • Maintain relationships with relevant regulatory and
government agencies
  • Represent our company's interests at relevant forums
and industry events
  • Prepare proposals, reports, and presentations on safety-
related matters
  • Manage staff performance and budgets in the Safety
department
  • Ensure the implementation of the strategic safety action
plan
