Head of Risk and Compliance

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This position is responsible for improving business processes, procedures, and systems to ensure the correct business and finance controls are in place. This role is responsible for managing and tracking essential business requirements such as project debt covenants, all insurance claims and coordination with the regional office and the company's treasury operations. This function reports to the Country CFO and, and interacts with all the SPV's CFO's, Head of Departments, Audit Committee (if applicable) and different stakeholders across the Group. This career opportunity is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports the business

  • Leads and ensures that all compliance and risk matters are in place for the Group, including the key obligations under the different contractual structure at the SPV level.
  • Works closely with Head of Departments to ensure critical SLAs and all different risk are monitored and mitigation actions are in place. Jointly with the different heads, will ensure follow-up of those actions.
Ensures risk management in the Group and consequently compliance to internal and external standards (ICS/ IFRS)
  • Develops, maps and improves key processes to manage potential risks and ensure harmonization across the group.
  • Installs adequate business controls where needed, in line with the group guidelines (e.g. Internal Audit).
  • Drafts and deploys specific policies and procedures (e.g., commercial policies, authorization matrix, Hedging, GBP, etc. with coordination with the other heads.
  • Makes sure the Group including decentralized SPVs act according to the company directives.
  • Acts as key knowledge holder for Compliance / Risk matters.
  • Coordinates internal audits and follow-up the required actions with the respective owners.
  • Coordinate that all insurance policies are in place, and coordinate across all SPV's and the regional support needed.
  • Drive lender relationships including loans covenants requirements and treasury operations.
Ensures compliance of external standards
  • Liaises with external bodies when and where required and coordinates internal audit processes and ensure all governance matters are in place across all entities (incl. company secretarial requirements).
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Qualification & Experience
  • Chartered Accountant qualification - SAICA /ACCA.
  • Chartered Accountant with 7-10- years' experience.
  • Banking experience is a plus, mainly if the person has experience in deal structuring.
  • Ideally treasury and risk experience.
  • IFRS knowledge required.
  • Possess strong reporting/ analytical skills with strong business and/ or finance background.
  • Ability to translate business into finance and vice versa.
  • Strong communication skills in a matrix setting.
