Job Description


Duties and responsibilities

  • Legal Compliance:
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices related to debt recovery and legal matters.
  • Ensure that all debt recovery practices and legal actions comply with South African laws.
  • Debt Recovery:
  • Develop and implement effective debt recovery strategies to minimize losses and maximize collections.
  • Handle negotiations with debtors and establish suitable repayment plans, if applicable.
  • Oversee the management of accounts referred for collections, ensuring prompt and efficient recovery efforts.
  • Monitor the status of overdue accounts and take appropriate actions to recover outstanding debts.
  • Litigation Management:
  • Evaluate legal issues, potential risks, and advise on the best course of action for resolving disputes and debt recovery through
  • legal means.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel and agencies, ensuring the efficient handling of legal proceedings and cases.
  • Prepare legal documents, including demand letters, legal notices, and court filings.
  • Contract Review and Analysis:
  • Review and analyze various contracts, agreements, and legal documents to ensure compliance and identify any potential legal
  • risks.
  • Advise relevant stakeholders on legal implications and provide guidance on contractual terms and conditions.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of debt recovery efforts, legal actions, and related correspondence.
  • Ensure all documentation is organized and easily accessible for future reference or auditing purposes.
  • Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, external legal partners, and debtors to resolve legal matters and debt recovery
  • cases.
  • Provide regular updates to management on the status of legal cases and recovery efforts.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in commissarial debt recovery, legal compliance, and contract analysis within a corporate environment or law firm.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to debt recovery and legal procedures.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills to interact with debtors, legal representatives, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess legal risks and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using legal databases and software for research and documentation purposes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
