JOB TITLE : Head of Legal, Egypt
LOCATION : Egypt
REPORTS TO : Vice President Legal, Africa
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced Head of Legal to lead and manage all legal affairs for our operations in Egypt. This role will serve as a trusted business partner, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, managing legal risks, and providing strategic legal counsel to support business objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Legal Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and compliance risks across operations in Egypt.
  • Develop frameworks and controls to ensure full adherence to corporate governance standards.
Strategic Legal Advisory
  • Partner with senior leadership to provide legal guidance on business decisions, transactions, and projects.
  • Ensure alignment of legal strategies with business objectives.
Contract & Commercial Management
  • Draft, review, and negotiate high-value contracts, agreements, and commercial arrangements.
  • Provide oversight for major projects, joint ventures, and partnerships.
Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with Egyptian laws and regulations, particularly within the extractives sector.
  • Liaise with regulators, government bodies, and external stakeholders as required.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Build and mentor a high-performing legal team (with future potential for direct reports).
  • Engage and oversee external counsel effectively.
Financial & Decision Authority
  • Manage and monitor the legal budget.
  • Exercise final authority on key strategic legal decisions within Egypt.
Investigations & Reporting
  • Lead internal investigations into cases of employee misconduct, policy breaches, and disciplinary matters as mandated under the new Egyptian Labour Law.
  • Maintain detailed and secure investigation files, evidence logs, and outcome reports.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Qualified lawyer admitted to the Egyptian Bar.
  • Minimum of 10 years' legal experience, ideally with a mix of law firm and in-house practice.
  • Deep expertise in Egyptian law and knowledge of international best practices within the extractives sector, particularly in Mining and Oil & Gas
  • Proven ability to conduct objective employee misconduct investigations and prepare legal reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in multinational environments within global organizations is required.
  • Demonstrated success in advising senior executives and managing legal risk in a complex business environment.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Strong ability to align legal strategies with corporate objectives.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Proven stakeholder management across corporate, government, and external counsel.
