Job Description


JOB PURPOSELeads the engineering function; sees to the development of a product plan and road map; leads research, development, and/or engineering activities and the maintenance of products.RESPONSIBILITIESSolution Architecture

  • Functional Solution Architecture: Evaluate and ensure that technology solutions align with business requirements, demonstrating scalability, efficiency, and responsiveness while promoting seamless integration and interoperability to support the organisation's functional objectives.
  • Technical Solution Architecture: Assess the robustness, scalability, and technological soundness of implemented solutions, ensuring they align with industry best practices and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the IT infrastructure
  • UX/UI: Measure the user-centric design effectiveness, accessibility, and overall satisfaction of technology solutions, ensuring that the implemented architectures prioritise a positive and seamless user experience
Development
  • Agile Development: Gauge the efficiency, adaptability, and collaborative prowess of the development process, ensuring that the team can rapidly respond to changing requirements and deliver high-quality software with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Waterfall Development: Assess the structured and sequential approach to project management, ensuring that projects are meticulously planned, executed, and completed within defined timelines and budget constraints
  • Development Operations: Measure the efficiency, collaboration, and automation of the software development lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration between development and operations teams to achieve faster, more reliable, and continuously improved delivery of software products
Configuration & Assembly
  • Product/Service Sourcing: Evaluate the effectiveness of acquiring and integrating external products or services, ensuring optimal alignment with project requirements, cost-effectiveness, and reliability in contributing to the overall configuration and assembly processes
  • Product/Service Configuration & Assembly: Assess the efficiency, accuracy, and speed of integrating diverse components and services into a cohesive and functional IT system, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with organizational objectives
  • Platform and API Integration: Measure the effectiveness and seamless interoperability of integrating various platforms and APIs, ensuring a cohesive and flexible technology infrastructure that supports the organization's overall objectives
Data Supply Chain
  • Data Lifecycle Management: Evaluate the efficiency, security, and compliance of managing data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring optimal utilization, accessibility, and integrity from acquisition and storage to processing and eventual disposal
  • Analytics & Insights: Assess the capability of the organization to derive meaningful insights from data, measuring the effectiveness of analytics tools and methodologies in providing valuable information for informed decision-making and strategic planning
Quality Assurance
  • Development Testing: Evaluate the effectiveness of testing processes during the development lifecycle, ensuring early identification and resolution of defects to enhance software quality, reliability, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • User Testing: Gauge the end-user experience, satisfaction, and usability of software products, ensuring that the implemented solutions meet user expectations and contribute to overall customer success
Transition Management
  • Release Management: Assess the efficiency and reliability of deploying software releases, ensuring a smooth transition from development to production while minimising downtime and potential disruptions to the end-users
  • Change Management: Measure the effectiveness in handling and implementing changes to the IT environment, ensuring a structured and controlled process that minimises disruptions, enhances adaptability, and supports the organisation's overall strategic objectives.
Budgeting
  • Take overall responsibility for setting and approving budgets that achieve organisational strategy
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Identify and manage stakeholders up to top management level, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions
Corporate Representation
  • Represent the organisation in a variety of industry and professional forums in order to promote the company brand. May well focus on a specific area of the organisation, such as a function
Performance Management
  • Manage and report on the performance of the function / business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives
Organisation Structure
  • Define the detailed organisation structure for a business area to align with corporate principles, define the relationship between elements of the organisation, and define the responsibilities of senior managers to enable the organisation to achieve its business objectives

  • Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of a significant business area. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Motivate others to develop their capabilities and fulfill their personal potential.
