Job Requirements
The Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law wishes to make appointments for the positions of Heads of Departments in the following departments:
Mercantile and Private Law.
Public Law.
Criminal Justice.
Economics.
Tourism.
Human Resources and Labour Relations.
Requirements:

  • PhD degree in the relevant discipline within the Department to which the applicant is applying in the Faculty concerned.
  • Be at a Senior Lecturer level and above
  • Senior position within the Faculty with evidence of managerial experience, including team leadership, budget management, and strategic planning.
  • 5 years of teaching experience in the relevant field of study.
  • Must have research experience, demonstrable evidence of a minimum of 5 publications in recognised DHET peer-reviewed/accredited publishing outlets and supervision of master's and or Ph.D research work.
  • I have in-depth knowledge of research, community engagement, and ethics policies and how they must be applied.
  • Partake in community engagement, entrepreneurial and third-stream income activities.
  • Must show a good track record of teaching and learning, community engagement and research activities with at least five peer-reviewed publications.
  • Must show academic citizenship in the sector by peer reviewing, participating in committees within and outside the university, and contributing to the academic community through research and knowledge sharing.
Duties:
Head of Department:
  • As the Head of Department, your role is pivotal in working with the faculty manager, deputy deans, and school director to strategically support the executive dean in achieving the faculty's targeted strategic objectives. Your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the future of our institution.
  • As the Head of Department, you will be a beacon of academic excellence, inspiring and guiding other staff members in their pursuit of scholarly achievement.
  • In your capacity as the Head of Department, you will provide strong leadership within the Department, chairing all departmental meetings and submitting reports to the Faculty Executive Board every quarter.
  • Responsible for the control of all programmes within the Department, including admissions, audits, exams, and oversight of pass, success, and throughput rates, among other things, within the residency period.
  • Oversee quality assurance of all programmes within the Department.
  • Facilitate programme/curriculum development and reviews in the Department.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as professional bodies and communities of practice in the Department.
  • Guide the Department in contributing to the Faculty operational plan and the UNIVEN Annual Performance Plan to realise the University's strategic objectives.
  • Partaking in the Department recruitment drive to attract prospective undergraduate students to meet the first entering students' enrolment targets.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as professional bodies and communities of practice, among others.
