Role Purpose

The Head: Financial Insights is responsible for analysing financial data, providing strategic insights, recommendations and supporting decision-making processes within the Momentum Investments portfolio. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the design and development of financial reporting and insights, KPI's, business models and analytical capabilities, working together with key business stakeholders.

The Head: Financial Insights will lead the enablement of business strategy through the architectural design of business insight definitions to make meaningful decisions through the provision of data analytics, insights and scenarios and contributing to the development of innovative business intelligence solutions. This will include dashboards and applications, as well as making recommendations for continuous improvement efforts that enable business objectives.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Accounting or Actuarial Science.
  • Registered Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) xe2x80x93 preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years post qualification experience in financial management and/or reporting in the financial services industry, preferably investments and/or insurance.
  • Minimum 3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Must have solid, in-depth understanding of the financial services business environment, processes, legislative and industry requirements.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Demonstrated experience in financial modelling and business insights.
  • Exposure to client strategies, business metrics, data visualisation and data modelling
Duties & Responsibilities

Oversee the interpretation and integration of financial information and the output from data analyses to facilitate and enable decision making
  • Alignment and continuous monitoring of business metrics with strategic projects across the Momentum Investments portfolio.
  • Partner with Momentum Investments Business Intelligence teams, as well as the Business Intelligence teams of other Momentum areas, to deliver on required business and financial dashboards and reports.
  • Oversee the process and compilation of fit for purpose quarterly financial reports, operational feedback, board reports, investors information, relevant strategic presentations, and others.
  • Enable the digitalisation, consolidation and standardisation of financial reports and insights.
  • Engage with various stakeholders to source business specific information that will enable delivery.
  • Oversee the analyses on sales channel data (sales volumes, sales remuneration, sales management expenses), product data and financial metrics (VNB, earnings investment income, balance sheet analysis) to advise the business to make critical decisions.
  • Understand prior analyses and reports in depth to build key reports, summaries, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with business unit CFOs and Group Finance to identify and solve for various finance insights needs.
Oversee the delivery of meaningful business intelligence, analysis, and insights
  • Contribute to strategic planning, client scenario planning, forecast and commercial awareness for the Momentum Investments portfolio across the various channels and business units.
  • Design solutions in line with the business intelligence architecture of the environment and business processes that need to be measured and analysed.
  • Set the business intelligence and analysis agenda by engaging regularly with stakeholders to determine business requirements.
  • Elicit the business requirements and uncover business opportunities, resulting functionality, data and processes needed to recommend the appropriate solution.
  • Provide frameworks to best identify, understand, and interpret data structures across various databases within the business to facilitate data analysis and continuous monitoring activities.
  • Provide a framework for scenario planning using analytics that support multi-channel delivery in collaboration with process optimization and business execution teams on planning of scenarios.
  • Develop commercial metrics for interactions and link to scenario planning in order assess the commercial grounding of scenarios and interaction plans.
  • Oversee the data sourcing, data models and data mining functions to support descriptive and trend analysis.
  • Contribute to data integrity and cleansing activities to increase the quality of data within Momentum.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of accurate, reliable, and timeous metrics and reports to the business.
  • Oversee the delivery of data models, reports and insights that proactively identify risks within business, provide insight into client service metrics.
  • Work with line management to develop quick win strategy and longer-term operational requirements.
Enable client centricity within area of responsibility
  • Provide authoritative, expertise and advice to clients and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the process of negotiating objective and realistic service level agreements, monitor appropriateness and recommend adjustments.

Competencies

This role requires a combination of technical expertise in finance and accounting as well as strong analytical, communication and leadership skills. Important skills and competencies include:
  • Financial analysis - A solid foundation in financial analysis is crucial. This includes the ability to interpret and analyse any financial and non-financial information, an understanding of financial modeling techniques, such as regression analysis, time series analysis, variance analysis and scenario analysis and identify key financial trends and patterns.
  • Data analytics: Proficiency in data analytics is essential for extracting meaningful insights from large datasets. Familiarity with tools such as Excel and SQL, as well as knowledge of Power BI data visualisation can also be beneficial.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: The ability to think critically to identify appropriate solutions when dealing with complex information and make data-driven decisions.
  • Business acumen: Should possess a solid understanding of business operations and strategy. You need to be able to connect financial data and insights to the broader organisational objectives, industry trends, and market conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Financial data requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and integrity. You should have a strong eye for detail and be able to identify inconsistencies or errors in financial reports.
  • Communication skills: Effective communication skills are necessary to effectively convey financial insights to stakeholders across various levels of the organisation. This includes the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner and to tailor the message to the target audience.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: You will work as part of a team and collaborate with various departments and business units. You will need to be able to lead projects, and influence decision-making.
  • Technology proficiency: Proficiency in financial software, data analysis tools and be comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, financial reporting systems, and other relevant software applications.
  • Continuous learning: The field of finance is constantly evolving, so a willingness to continuously learn and adapt to technologies, methodologies, and industry developments is essential.
