Role Purpose

Momentum Investments is at the forefront of financial innovation. As Head of Data Platforms, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of investment intelligence, driving strategic enablement through data, and unlocking new opportunities for growth and performance.

The Head of Investment Data Platforms will lead the strategic enablement of data and data practices across Momentum Investments, driving the development and execution of a robust data strategy. This role is responsible for building and managing data platforms, ensuring governance and security, enabling advanced analytics, and transforming data into high-value products that support investment decision-making, insights and operational excellence.

Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Finance, or related field.
10+ years of experience in data leadership roles, preferably within financial services or investments.
Proven experience in data strategy, governance, architecture, and analytics.
Strong understanding of investment products, financial markets, and regulatory environments.
Experience with modern data platforms and tools (e.g., AWS, Power BI, Python, SQL).

Role Outputs:

Strategic Enablement



Develop and implement a comprehensive Data Strategy aligned with the Investment business goals.
Oversee the design and evolution of Data Platforms and Infrastructure, with a focus on enabling self-service capabilities for business users across Momentum Investments.
Lead the development of scalable and flexible Data Architecture.
Establish and maintain a robust Data Governance Framework to ensure data quality, compliance, and stewardship.
Implement a secure and compliant Data Security Framework in line with POPIA and global standards.
Drive Data Sourcing and Acquisition strategies to enrich internal datasets and support investment insights.
Champion Data Productization by transforming raw data into actionable, reusable data products.
Enable Advanced Analytics, including Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, to unlock predictive insights and automation.
Unlocking the full potential of data across our business units, improving quality, availability, management and governance.
Partner with Group to enable an Enterprise Data Strategy. Adoption of enterprise data governance practices (as aligned by IT Exco) to deliver high quality data products for internal and external consumption, while eliminating redundant data sources and increasing speed of data delivery.


Operational Leadership



Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of data assets, from ingestion to consumption.
Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of data systems.
Collaborate with IT, Risk, Compliance, and Investment teams to ensure seamless data integration and usage.


Team & Stakeholder Management



Build and lead a multidisciplinary data team including roles like data engineers, architects, analysts, and scientists.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within Momentum Investments and the wider Momentum Group.
Engage with stakeholders to identify data opportunities and deliver strategic value.
