A well-established, vibrant restaurant in Umhlanga (Durban) dedicated to delivering a fine dining experience is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and creative Head Chef to take charge of kitchen operations and elevate the culinary experience to new heights.
Desired Experience and Qualification:

  • Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts or an equivalent professional culinary qualification
  • 810 years of progressive experience in the culinary field
  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role, with mandatory fine dining experience
  • Proven proficiency with GAAP Point of Sale systems
  • A valid drivers license
Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional leadership and team development abilities.
  • Strong culinary creativity and innovation.
  • High level of attention to detail and quality control.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong understanding of cost control, menu costing, and inventory management.
  • In-depth knowledge of health & safety and food hygiene regulations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and maintain composure during busy service times.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations and ensure consistent food quality and presentation.
  • Develop and implement creative, seasonal, and cost-effective menus.
  • Manage and train kitchen staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
  • Monitor food preparation and production to meet quality and service standards.
  • Maintain stock control and manage ordering in line with budget and business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Collaborate with management on cost control, menu engineering, and supplier management.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and competitor offerings.
