Job Description

To administer, coordinate, and implement all onsite technical and maintenance-related activities, carry out administrative work, and provide feedback and information to the Facilities Manager for CDC-owned buildings. This also includes coordinating onsite activities and completion of paperwork by service providers/contractors.

Ensures that the sites are maintained in a good operational manner. Provides timeous updates of the progress on tickets and calls logged on the system to the Facilities Manager responsible for the site.



DESCRIPTION

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS




Technical and Maintenance Activities:




Ensures that the sites are maintained in a good operational manner. Provides timeous updates of the progress on tickets and calls logged on the system to the Facilities Manager responsible for the site. Performs routine on-site inspections to ensure that service providers and contractors adhere to the CDC's codes, quality, safety and contractual requirements. Conducts routine maintenance and as well as preventative and planned maintenance activities. Provides first line tiling, basic electrical, carpentry and plumbing maintenance work, (including repairing broken locks, doors and replacements of fused bulbs etc)

Ohs / She Compliance:




Cleans and maintain work areas, including machinery and tools, to ensure a safe working environment. Ensures all installations, repairs and maintenance meets SHE specifications and requirements. Ensures all installations, repairs and maintenance meets the requirements of the relevant codes and standards

Administration:




Files and submits routine maintenance-related inspection sheets. Provides recommendations and sound technical advice to tenants and professional staff on identified maintenance-related matters. Submits orders as required. Reconciles water meter readings with the metro readings in order to manage wasteful expenditure or identify leaks on the system, and submits to the Utilities department for processing

COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS




Matric (National Senior Certificate, NQF 4) or equivalent. National Certificate (NQF 4) / Trade Test Certificate as a Handyman / Electrician / Carpenter / Plumber / Builder. 2 years of Handyman experience within a building environment. Ability to carry out all technical-related activities (first-line maintenance). A generalist / maintenance all-rounder with the ability to work with onsite personnel including Security. Experience as a Caretaker. Basic knowledge of maintenance procedures and relevant tools. Good communication skills. Problem-solving. Basic to intermediate proficiency in MS Office. Strong work ethic (honesty, reliability, trustworthiness, attention to detail, confidentiality). Valid Code B or EC driver's license.

The incumbent is required to:

Actively participate in and adhere to the CDC's Quality, Safety, Health, Environmental, Information Security and IT Service Management System (SHEMS) policies and procedures. This includes a responsibility for identifying and reporting potential risks and incidents related to safety, security, and quality, and for contributing to the ongoing improvement of the CDC's SHEMS. Be familiar with and adhere to the CDC emergency preparedness plans. Maintain confidentiality regarding CDC trade secrets and Information Security policies. Obtain prior written permission for any business or pursuit outside of the CDC that may conflict with the CDC's interests, including immediate family members working for a direct competitor, adhering to the CDC's Conflict of Interest Policy.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT




Performance is monitored regularly at both an individual and a team level, in accordance with the CDC's performance management system and control measures relevant to the position.
