Group Chief Financial Officer

Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Job Description

Join a dynamic, entrepreneurial and rapidly expanding global and professional Services Group that provides a wide range of digitally enabled business services. It consists of three core Subsidiaries with one of the businesses focused only on the international market (UK, USA and Australia at this stage and is rapidly growing by both acquisition and greenfield operations). This position has arisen due to the promotion of the existing incumbent upto the JSE listed Holding Company. The Group is heavily labour intensive and the Subsidiaries (Divisions) consist of being principal owner of portfolios that are acquired or providing a commission based service for these portfolios, providing a BPO (Business Outsource Processing) for their international Client base and a technological driven platform for their diverse customer base. Offices are based throughout South Africa as well as in key overseas cities. The working environment is characterised by an intense and constant focus on growth, optimisation, earnings quality, sustainability and governance. Whilst the CFO will be expected to take on all aspects of the Groups financial oversight and reporting (there are financial departments in all of the 3 Subsidiaries), critical objectives will be: to provide hands-on leadership of the finance architecture & risk/governance frameworks, to optimise balance sheet dynamics and streamline & enhance financial performance, positioning and cashflow generation. The CFO will be integral to both business and operational performance and will work closely alongside the Group CEO and Group COO in providing key strategic insights whilst identifying opportunities to maximise growth, earnings sustainability and business quality as well as to minimise risk.

Key performance areas, inter alia, include:

  • Provide a strong finance function and maintain well skilled finance teams which will deliver excellent financial services and group support. This is in addition to assuming "traditional" responsibilities such as budgets, management and cost accounting, reporting policies and attending to financial, tax, accounting, capital and fiduciary requirements.
  • Provide a more conservative day to day watchful role to, for example, flag risks and highlight constraints. In addition, to monitor the external regulatory environment and advise Directors and Stakeholders on updates and changes as necessary.
  • Provide fiduciary leadership and ensure technical skills are available to oversee and manage matters relating to finance, tax, regulation, business management and administration.
  • Management Accounts, budgets including balance sheet, income statement and cashflow for the Group. Manage the flow of cash, debt and reserves through forward modelling.
  • Manage foreign exchange as the Group has international investments including foreign exchange controls and other applicable regulations. In addition, manage cashflows between local and foreign accounts.
  • Oversee management of remuneration systems including payroll & employment contracts due to the large volume of employees within this labour intensive Group.
Requirements:
  • Ideally a CA (SA) with a Post Graduate Business Qualification and not less than 15 years of post Articles and having worked in a Senior Executive Financial position in an equivalent services (financial would be a distinct advantage) and global business environment. This will include understanding global business, listed Group structure and a detailed understanding of capital allocation/structuring and balance sheet optimisation.
  • Is familiar with the obligations/dynamics of being part of a listed/large Group structure (upwards and downwards). In addition, is able to manage, optimise and streamline the financial aspects of operating Subsidiaries and structures across multiple geographies and jurisdictions.
  • Is familiar with complicated capital structures, cross-border transactions (and pricing) and the complexities of international finance.
  • Has the expertise to manage and lead a skilled, highly efficient, detail-sensitive finance and administrative team. Furthermore, has the experience to sit on statutory boards and committees across the Group and finally, has the necessary business and commercial acumen with the ability to be a business partner beyond CFO obligations.
