Role Purpose
To provide technical accounting advisory and prepare Group consolidations and IFRS-compliant reports, ensuring fair and reliable financial reporting and disclosures in compliance with legal and reporting requirements.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CA(SA)
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 2-3 years post-article experience
  • At least 2 years of experience with IFRS reporting and/or IFRS advisory
  • Experience with group consolidation and reporting is advantageous.
  • Technical accounting experience is advantageous
  • Prior IFRS consolidation systems experience advantage
  • Experience working with executive-level and senior stakeholders is highly preferable
  • Cognos Controller experience is advantageous
  • IFRS 17 knowledge and experience are advantageous
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of accounting practices
  • Knowledge of relevant computer software
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of financial services industry would be an advantage
Duties & Responsibilities
INTERNAL PROCESS
  • Maintain and update Group technical accounting frameworks, standards, policies and processes in line with industry standards and regulations
  • Provide specialist IFRS technical advice and support to stakeholders in the structuring and execution of complex transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, internal restructures and funding solutions
  • Co-ordinate sign-off with auditors in respect of technical accounting opinions
  • Contribute towards the implementation of new IFRS standards including the development of technical accounting frameworks, standards, disclosures, policies and processes
  • Provide technical accounting advisory support to business during the due diligence phase of transactions in respect of complex acquisitions
  • Review and monitor compliance and consistent application of accounting policies and procedures by Group entities
  • Develop, maintain and distribute reporting frameworks and templates that comply with IFRS and other regulatory requirements including reporting pack templates
  • Prepare and post routine, non-routine and complex consolidation journals where required
  • Prepare Group financial statements in compliance with IFRS and other reporting/regulatory requirements and timelines to ensure fair and reliable financial reporting and disclosures are issued to stakeholders
  • Review financial statements for compliance with IFRS and other reporting/regulatory requirements
  • Assist business units with the implementation of IFRS technical accounting conclusions reached in opinions
  • Assist business units by providing guidance in respect of complex and judgemental transactions
  • Participation in ad hoc projects, reporting, or technical advisory projects where the tasks are of a medium to high complexity
  • Participate in technical accounting projects, including the implementation of new accounting standards
  • Provide an effective and integrated support function to the financial managers throughout the reporting process
  • Prepare comprehensive reports (IFRS and non-IFRS related) to the Group governing bodies, such as the Audit Committee
  • Prepare reports required for submission to external and internal stakeholders, e.g., JSE, integrated report and SENS announcements
  • Provide quantitative information and detailed analysis to internal stakeholders to assist with the management of investor queries and expectations
  • Assist with consolidation pack training for financial managers.
  • Assist with the implementation of new reporting processes and systems
  • Contribute towards the preparation/review of Group consolidated accounts for each reporting period for EXCO and the Board quarterly
  • Engage with external audit and manage their requests and requirements
  • Contribute towards the improvement of current reporting processes and tools
  • Assist with consolidation pack training for financial managers
  • Understand and use the Group IFRS consolidation system in order to train users
