Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and reliable Grit Blaster to join our team in Klerksdorp. This role is essential for preparing metal surfaces for coating applications on industrial structures such as fuel tanks and pipelines. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in abrasive blasting within petrochemical, industrial, or heavy engineering environments and will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
You will work in high-risk areas where precision, physical fitness, and adherence to safety standards are critical.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation

• Perform abrasive blasting on steel surfaces to prepare for painting or coating
• Ensure surfaces meet specified cleanliness standards (e.g. SA 2.5 or client-specific requirements)
• Operate and maintain blasting equipment including hoses, nozzles, and compressors
• Mix and load abrasive materials as required for each project
• Mask and protect surfaces not intended for blasting

Safety & Compliance

• Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site
• Use appropriate PPE (including respiratory protection) at all times
• Report equipment faults, unsafe practices, or incidents immediately
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment

Equipment Handling & Maintenance

• Conduct daily inspections on blasting equipment and tools
• Perform basic troubleshooting and report any defects
• Assist with setting up and dismantling of blasting areas
• Keep accurate logs of work completed and materials used

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with painters, supervisors, and team members to meet deadlines
• Assist in coordinating surface prep with coating schedules
• Communicate effectively with site management and other departments

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Grit Blaster in petrochemical, industrial, or heavy engineering sectors
• Familiarity with abrasive blasting techniques, surface prep standards, and equipment
• Petrochemical sector experience is advantageous
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to assess surface readiness
• Physically fit and able to work in demanding conditions (e.g. confined spaces, heights, outdoor sites)
• Familiarity with site safety and environmental protocols
• A valid driver's license is advantageous
• Candidates based in or around Klerksdorp are preferred - join our team in Klerksdorp!
