Tekkie Town is seeking to employ a Designer who will be responsible for creating / designing visually compelling and effective solutions across various media to communicate messages, enhance brand identity, and achieve business objectives. This role requires a blend of artistic flair, technical proficiency, and an understanding of marketing / promotional and communication principles.
This individual is instrumental in designing for the inhouse studio interpreting business / marketing objectives, product visuals and customer insights into engaging designs that resonate with the market of Tekkie Town. This includes working on large scale national projects as well as daily promotional materials across store formats, above and below the line mediums, digital platforms and channels as well as promotions that may need to be further translated into below the line execution.
Key Responsibilities
Expert-level skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Knowledge of QuarkXPress or CorelDRAW.
Illustration and photo editing skills.
Strong understanding of design principles (e.g., alignment, balance, contrast, hierarchy, negative space, proximity, repetition).
Expertise in typography (selection, typesetting, kerning, leading).
Solid knowledge of colour theory and its application.
Understanding of print production processes (bleeds, slug, crop marks, file formats, color systems - CMYK, RGB).
Familiarity with digital design best practices, including web (UI/UX principles, responsive design) and social media graphics.
Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines efficiently.
Ability to work independently and take initiative to ensure smooth workflow.
Qualifications
Relevant Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communication, or a related creative field.
Relevant certifications in design software (e.g., Adobe Certified Professional) are highly advantageous.
Minimum of 2-5 years of proven professional experience in graphic design or similar role within a fast-paced environment, preferably in retail, agency, or print production.
Demonstrated experience in developing and executing design projects from concept to completion.
A strong and diverse portfolio showcasing a range of design projects (e.g., branding, print, digital, web, social media).
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design principles, theories, and practices.
Understanding of branding, marketing, and advertising principles.
Familiarity with various design styles and trends.
Knowledge of different media formats and their specific design requirements (print, digital, social).
Understanding of intellectual property and copyright related to design.
