Our client, the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI), a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA) has a Graduate Internship available for a Soil Scientist based in Mount Edgecombe, KwaZulu-Natal

The internship is aimed at providing one Graduate an opportunity to develop and acquire the necessary skills within a working environment. Moreover, the internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring Soil Scientists to immerse themselves in the fascinating realm of soil health sustainability and agriculture innovation.

The intern's role is mainly assisting in field data collection, laboratory data collection and analysis. Use of geographic information system software to identify trends and correlations

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Field and laboratory data collection and preparing data reports following guidelines from Supervisors
• Research support (assisting the senior scientist in experimental design and protocol implementation)
• Responsible for a bin trial established in the lab and field and collecting plant growth parameters.
• Assisting with training of extension specialists and growers in the use basic soil science information to estimate yield potential

• BSc Degree or a BSc Honours in Soil Science

• Strong interest in soil science, agriculture, environmental sustainability
• A desire to commit to the internship program for the specified duration.

• Scientific curiosity and analytical skills
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Good verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• The successful incumbent will receive an allowance of R3500.00 monthly
• There is onsite accommodation, meals, clinic facilities and a laundry service at a monthly fee of R380.00 (optional)
