Job Description
Responsible for continuous disease and hygiene monitoring, disease prevention through biosecurity measures, disease control through vaccination and medication programs and evaluation of bird welfare.
The ideal candidate would be responsible for:
- Advise on general disease prevention and treatment
- Development and management of effective vaccination and medication programmes
- Interpretation of laboratory results for standard serological, molecular, microbiology and parasitology monitoring
- Preventative lesion scoring in broilers
- Routine and diagnostic post-mortem evaluation of broilers and breeders
- Audits on general bird husbandry, bio-security, welfare and housing conditions
- Involved in projects to improve chick quality, egg hygiene, fertility and hatchability
- Investigations into problem areas within the breeder flocks, hatcheries, broiler flocks and selected meat safety
- Conduct farm visits
- Communicate with the National Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and
- Rural Development (DALRRD) and State Veterinarians in Mpumalanga
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Veterinary Science (BVSc)
- Veterinary experience in commercial poultry production will be beneficial
- Registered with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC)
- Valid drivers license
- Fluent in English and a second official language
- Must be computer literate
