GM Distribution / Transport / Logistics / Supply Chain
Johannesburg - Gauteng - South Africa
A specialist manufacturer of high-performance material-handling equipment is seeking an experienced GM to lead its engineering and manufacturing operations. A hands-on, solutions-driven leader with strong execution focus and the ability to translate strategy into operational results.
This role is fully accountable for production performance, engineering design oversight, quality, safety, financial control, and operational strategy. You will guide the mechanical design and optimisation of engineered lifting solutions, drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure consistent delivery against production and commercial targets.
Key responsibilities include leading multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets and cost control, optimising manufacturing and JIT production planning processes, strengthening quality control in line with OEM standards, and ensuring full regulatory and safety compliance. The role also supports business growth through operational scalability and stakeholder engagement.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Pr Eng registration (essential)
- 10+ years senior leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably steel or engineered equipment
- Proven exposure to mechanical design review and optimisation
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and electrical fundamentals in lifting systems
- Strong leadership, commercial acumen and advanced Excel capability
- Postgraduate business qualification advantageous
