The Glass Steward is responsible for the efficient cleaning, polishing, handling, and storage of all
HIGH-QUALITY
glassware used in the restaurant, bar, or banquet areas. This role ensures that all glass items meet hygiene and presentation standards and supports smooth service operations (
HANDLE WITH CARE)
by maintaining cleanliness, stock levels, and proper organisation of stewarding areas.
Key Responsibilities
Glassware Cleaning & Handling
Wash, rinse, sanitise, and polish all glassware according to hygiene standards.
Inspect glasses for chips, cracks, stains, or water marks; remove and report any damaged items.
Handle all glassware with care to minimise breakage.
Ensure appropriate cleaning chemicals and machines are used correctly (glass washer, sanitizer, etc.).
Storage & Organisation
Store clean glassware in designated areas in an organised and safe manner.
Restock glassware for service stations, bars, and banquet setups.
Maintain clean and orderly storage shelves and stewarding areas.
Support in Service Areas
Assist bartenders, waiters, and banquet staff with timely replenishment of clean glassware.
Deliver glassware before service periods and clear after service when required.
Ensure readiness for events by preparing sorted and polished glass items.
Hygiene & Safety
Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation protocols at all times.
Maintain clean workstations, sinks, and equipment.
Comply with all health and safety guidelines, including proper PPE use.
Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately.
Teamwork & Communication
Work closely with the stewarding and bar teams to meet operational demands.
Communicate any shortages or breakages to the supervisor on duty.
Assist in general stewarding duties when needed (cutlery polishing, dishwashing overflow, etc.).
Skills & Competencies Required
Attention to detail
-- Ensures spotless and presentable glassware.
Time management
-- Handles peak-service volumes efficiently. but with necessary patience.
Basic understanding of hygiene standards
(HACCP advantageous).
Physical stamina
-- Ability to stand for long periods and handle repetitive tasks.
Teamwork and communication skills.
Ability to handle fragile items carefully.
Experience & Qualifications
Previous experience in stewarding or hospitality operations preferred.
Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and glassware types an advantage.
Ability to operate glass washers and basic cleaning equipment.
No formal education required; on-the-job training provided.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced hospitality environment.
Shift-based work, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, hot water, and wet floor areas.
