Role Description



This is a full-time on-site role for a General Manager at Palian Manufacturing Pty Ltd, located in the City of Johannesburg. The General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the manufacturing business unit, ensuring optimal operational efficiency, financial performance, and strategic growth. This end-to-end role encompasses the management of production, sales, finance, human resources, and administrative functions to meet business objectives and deliver results as per agreed plans. The role also involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards. The General Manager will report directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:



Leadership

- Provides authentic leadership, promoting team efforts to reach goals.

- Cultivates a high-performance culture through effective leadership and clear KPI's.

- Collaborates effectively with the Executive Director, CFO and other stakeholders.

Manufacturing Operations

- Manages / Oversees production processes to optimize output, reduce waste, and maintain quality.

- Oversees quality control and compliance with industry standards.

- Oversees procurement, logistics, and supply chain management.

- Maintains operational efficiency through effective resource allocation.

- Complies with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

- Implements continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and competitiveness

Financial & Strategic Management

- Develops and implements business strategies to improve profitability.

- Monitors financial performance, budgeting, and cost control.

- Manages the collection of debtors and optimises cash flow, including creditors.

- Identifies growth opportunities and market trends to enhance competitiveness.

- Presents quarterly performance updates and strategic plans to executive stakeholders.

Internal Audit

- Maintains a robust internal controls framework.

- Conducts regular testing of critical controls.

- Oversees training for compliance with company policies and procedures.

Sales & Customer Engagement

- Leads sales and marketing and dealer networks (agents) to grow market share.

- Identifies new market segments, strategic partnerships, and product opportunities.

- Cultivates relationships with key clients and stakeholders.

- Aligns production capacity with market demand.

- Builds strong relationships with key customers, construction partners, developers and consultants.

Human Resources

- Manages planning, recruitment, and development of employees.

- Trains factory staff to maintain a skilled and motivated team.

- Reviews Union membership and partners with Union officials.

- Benchmarks salaries annually and reviews increases, incentives, and working conditions.

Administrative Excellence

- Ensures the efficient operation of all administrative processes within the business unit.

Guarantees regulatory and legal compliance according to industry standards.

Qualification and Skills



Education

: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering (Industrial), or related field. An MBA is preferred.

Experience

: Minimum 8-10 years in manufacturing leadership roles.

Skills

: Strong financial acumen, strategic planning, operational efficiency, team leadership, and proven track record of delivering results.

ERP systems experience.

Strong negotiation skills

Industry Knowledge

: Familiarity with light manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and market dynamics. Knowledge of the racking industry in South Africa an added advantage.
