Job Description

Thembalitsha Foundation is seeking a dedicated Tutor to support young people in their learning journey. The ideal candidate will bring strong subject knowledge, a learner-centred approach, and experience working with diverse learners in under-resourced communities.

Based in Strand, Western Cape

Starting Date: January 2026

Full-time: 5 days a week (8:00 to 16:00)

Key Responsibilities

Teach GED subjects: Language Arts, Maths, Science, and Social Studies. Deliver high-quality English instruction and exam preparation support. Develop engaging, learner-centred lessons and personalised learning plans. Provide additional tutoring across core GED subjects when required. Integrate technology into teaching and support learners with basic computer skills. Monitor learner progress, give constructive feedback, and prepare learner reports. Maintain accurate learner records and provide updates to the office. Contribute to lesson planning, curriculum development, and resource creation. Use inclusive teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs. Foster a supportive and empowering learning environment.

Requirements

isiXhosa as a home language, with strong English language teaching skills. Bachelor's degree in Education (B.Ed.) or related field. Minimum 3 years' experience working in underserved local communities. Experience in training or facilitating practical skills. Proven ability to teach English effectively across different learning levels. Experience working with youth in under-resourced or NGO settings (advantageous). Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to education, empowerment, and social impact. Proficiency in using technology for teaching and distance learning.
