Job Description

Job Purpose:



To lead and manage the foundry operations to achieve production targets, quality standards, safety, and cost efficiency, while ensuring compliance with legal and company requirements. The Foundry Manager will oversee and optimize all aspects of the foundry and must have strong technical knowledge in all areas.

Key Responsibilities:



1. Production Management



Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily foundry operations to meet customer and internal machine shop requirements.

Ensure efficient production planning, timely delivery of castings and meet daily targets.

Ensure minimal downtime or delays.

Oversee the core making, molding, melting, pouring, shake out and fettling operations.

Oversee pattern making and maintenance processes.

Ensure maximum yield rates are reached.

Monitor and control scrap rates within targeted scrap %.

2. Team Leadership



Manage and mentor a team of supervisors and operators.

Implement training and development plans for foundry personnel.

Promote a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Implement process control and ensure discipline within team.

3. Quality Assurance



Ensure castings meet internal and external customer quality specifications.

Collaborate with the Quality Control team to resolve non-conformances.

Drive improvements in process control and product consistency.

4. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance



Maintain and improve Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.

Enforce health and safety protocols in line with legal and company standards.

Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits.

Ensure foundry operations comply with environmental regulations (air emissions, waste handling etc.)

5. Maintenance Coordination



Collaborate with maintenance to minimise downtime and maintain foundry equipment.

Plan and streamlining preventive maintenance by production team in collaboration with maintenance team.

Recommend and oversee upgrades to equipment.

6. Cost Control & Efficiency



Monitor production costs and identify areas for cost reduction.

Manage raw material and consumable usage.

Improve foundry efficiency through lean manufacturing and 6S initiatives.

Evaluate and continual improvement of yield rates achieved.

7. Reporting & Administration



Maintain accurate records of production, quality, downtime, and safety incidents.

Submit monthly reports to management.

Participate in budgeting and strategic planning for the department.

Minimum Qualifications:



National Diploma or Degree in Metallurgy / Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Engineering or similar.

Foundry Technology Certification and training courses through SAIF is an advantage.

Experience:



Minimum 8-10 years of experience in foundry operations, with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory role.

Experience in sand casting (sand systems and mold preparation), furnace operation (induction), quality control and metallurgical testing.
