Job Title: Site Manager - Formwork Division Position Summary

The Site Manager is responsible for the on-site management and execution of formwork supply and installation works. The role carries full accountability for

safe execution, quality workmanship, and program adherence

, which form the

three primary pillars

of the position. These priorities are of the

highest requirement and take precedence over all other site activities

.

In addition, the Site Manager maintains strong

commercial awareness

by identifying, recording, and reporting site conditions, constraints, and events that may impact cost, program, or scope. The role requires proactive engagement with the client and main contractor to ensure alignment, transparency, and effective issue resolution from mobilization through to demobilization.

Key Responsibilities

1. Site Establishment, Planning & Program Control

Review contract scope, drawings, method statements, and formwork designs prior to commencement. Establish site operations in line with the approved construction program and formwork sequence. Plan and manage daily and weekly activities to ensure continuous progress and efficient use of resources. Monitor program performance and

immediately identify and report risks, delays, or disruptions

affecting the critical path.
2. Site Execution & Supervision

Manage all day-to-day formwork operations, including erection, striking, cycling, and material handling. Supervise foremen, labour teams, and labour-only subcontractors to ensure correct sequencing and productivity. Ensure formwork installations comply with approved drawings, engineer's requirements, and system limitations. Maintain site discipline and ensure works are executed in a controlled and coordinated manner.
3. Health, Safety & Environmental Management (Primary Pillar)

Enforce strict compliance with health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and method statements. Ensure safety is

never compromised by program or commercial pressure

. Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ongoing site safety monitoring. Work closely with the Safety Officer to identify hazards, implement controls, and close out non-conformances. Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and assist with investigations and preventative actions.
4. Quality Assurance & Technical Compliance (Primary Pillar)

Maintain the highest standards of workmanship and formwork accuracy. Conduct pre-pour inspections and ensure formwork is signed off prior to concrete placement. Identify quality risks early and implement corrective measures to prevent rework or delays. Ensure compliance with specifications, approved method statements, and SANS requirements.
5. Program & Productivity Management (Primary Pillar)

Drive program compliance through effective planning, supervision, and coordination. Monitor productivity and resource output against planned targets. Identify and resolve constraints that may affect progress, including access, sequencing, or interface with other trades. Escalate program risks timeously with clear mitigation proposals.
6. Commercial Awareness & Reporting

Maintain continuous awareness of site conditions, changes, and constraints that may affect cost or scope.

Identify, record, and report

variations, delays, additional works, abortive works, and inefficiencies to the Contracts Manager or QS. Track material usage, losses, damages, and abnormal consumption and report deviations. Provide accurate site records, progress information, and supporting data for claims and commercial assessments.
7. Client & Stakeholder Relations

Act as the day-to-day operational interface with the main contractor and client site team. Foster professional, cooperative relationships built on safety, quality, and program reliability. Attend coordination meetings and communicate progress, risks, and constraints clearly and factually. Address site issues proactively to protect both program and commercial position while maintaining client confidence.
8. Team Leadership & Coordination

Lead, mentor, and manage foremen and site teams to achieve safety, quality, and productivity objectives. Ensure clear communication of expectations, priorities, and work methods. Coordinate closely with internal departments including contracts, QS, logistics, procurement, and yard operations.
9. Demobilization & Close-Out

Manage controlled striking, cleaning, and return of formwork materials and equipment. Ensure materials are accounted for and returned in acceptable condition. Assist with site close-out, final inspections, and post-project reviews. Contribute to lessons-learned discussions to support continuous improvement.
