The role

We are seeking a qualified Food Scientist consultant to join our team on advancing self-care initiatives in Nigeria (and other geographic markets). In this position, you will be instrumental in developing evidence-based nutritional interventions and food-related health solutions that empower individuals to take control of their health outcomes. You will work within our technology-driven healthcare ecosystem to create scalable, culturally appropriate nutritional programs that align with our mission of improving healthcare access and outcomes.

This initiative focuses on developing comprehensive self-care solutions that integrate nutrition, technology, and community health approaches. The project aims to address malnutrition, chronic diseases, and health disparities through innovative food science applications and digital health platforms.

Responsibilities

Research & Development

Design and conduct research studies on nutritional interventions for common health conditions prevalent in Nigeria, South Africa.

Develop evidence-based nutritional protocols and guidelines for self-care management

Analyze food composition, bioavailability, and nutritional density of local Nigerian and South African foods

Collaborate with clinical teams to validate nutritional interventions through pilot studies

Program Development & Implementation

Design culturally appropriate nutritional education materials and messaging and self-care

protocols

Develop digital nutrition assessment tools and algorithms for the mDoc platform

Create standardized nutritional screening and monitoring protocols

Work with technology teams to integrate nutritional guidance into digital health solutions

Establish quality control measures for nutrition-related program components

Focus on creating presentations, SOPs, curriculums, training materials, quality assessments

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

Partner with local food producers, suppliers, and agricultural stakeholders

Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and community health organizations

Work closely with external research partners

Engage with healthcare providers to ensure clinical relevance of nutritional interventions

Interface with regulatory bodies regarding food safety and nutritional claims

Initiate meetings with stakeholders and team, prepare communication to summarize discussions and action items

Data Management & Analysis

Collect, analyze, and interpret nutritional and health outcome data

Develop metrics and KPIs for measuring program effectiveness

Maintain detailed documentation of research methodologies and findings

Contribute to peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations

Quality Assurance & Compliance

Ensure all food science activities comply with Nigerian, South African and international food safety standards Conduct nutritional labeling and claims verification Monitor and evaluate the safety and efficacy of nutritional interventions.

Minimum

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Master's or PhD in Food Science or related discipline is preferred, especially if the work involves R&D, product innovation, or regulatory strategy.
