Position Purpose / Objective

Fitters ensure that various components are assembled as per technical drawing specifications to create a complete machine ready to be sold.

Duties and Responsibilities

Examining detailed drawings, route packs and specifications to establish job, material, and equipment requirements. Performing general fitting duties including the assembly of the full range of machines and accessories manufactured at Astec JHB. Planning, organizing, and implementing the sequential steps of machine assembly within the requirements of the work plan. Conducing running tests on assembled machines to ensure that quality standards are met. Completing test run reports and data sheets. Initiating and completing Works Orders and ensure timely sign off / close off for completed work along with relevant feedback information and other reports as required. Assisting with stripping of equipment when required. Adhering to build specifications and ensuring that it complies with the required quality standards. Providing daily feedback and reports to Supervisor on progress and work completed against schedule. Employing safe working procedures in all activities. Participate in Lean, 5S and Safety culture. Ensuring that the machines are kept clean and in good working order. Ensuring that tools are correctly used. Preventing damage to machines and tools. You will be required to perform any additional and lawful duties that might not be listed in the job description, but which falls within your grade or grades below as and when required. Ensuring compliance to QMS standards.

Minimum Requirements

Qualified Red Seal Fitter. Valid Overhead Crane Driver's license. Three years' post trade test experience in the assembly of capital equipment. At least 5 years' experience in a heavy engineering environment. Experience in mounting and dismounting of large bearings. Reliable individual with sober habits. The ability to read and interpret technical drawings. The ability to use a cutting torch and welding machines. The ability to work under pressure. Willingness to work shifts.
