Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management

  • Successfully maintain the organisations financial stability, ensuring that expenses were within budget and revenue goals were met.
  • Implement cost-saving measures and efficiencies in financial operations.
  • Demonstrate prudent fiscal management by overseeing investments and cash reserves, resulting in positive financial outcomes.
Compliance and reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting requirements for non-profits.
  • Produce accurate and timely financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage audits effectively, resulting in clean audit reports and minimal audit findings.
Fundraising Support and Subsidy Management
  • Play a key role in securing of subsidies, and supported donation and funding processes and opportunities for GBTSA.
  • Demonstrate expertise in subsidy management, including tracking, reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Committee and Fundraising team to create financial strategies that supported fundraising efforts.
Budgeting and planning
  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with Campus/Fundraising Managers and the Executive Team.
  • Monitor budget variances and provided proactive recommendations to address any financial challenges.
  • Develop long-term financial plans aligned with GBTSAs mission and strategic goals.
Risk Management
  • Implement effective risk management strategies, including insurance coverage, to protect GBTSA from financial risks.
  • Identify and address financial vulnerabilities, providing recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Maintain a robust internal control environment to prevent fraud and financial mismanagement.
Technology and efficiency
  • Leverage technology to streamline financial processes, reducing manual work and improving accuracy.
  • Implement or upgrade financial software and systems to enhance reporting and analysis capabilities.
  • Stay current with financial technology trends and made recommendations for improvements as necessary
Team Leadership and Development
  • Successfully lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability and professionalism.
  • Encourage ongoing professional development for finance staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and other departments effectively.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of GBTSAs mission and how financial decisions impact the ability to achieve that mission.
  • Highlight the alignment of financial strategies with GBTSAs overarching goals and impact on beneficiaries.
Stakeholder Relations
  • Establish strong relationships with the Board Trustees, auditors, and external partners, maintaining trust and transparency (and donor responses where appropriate).
  • Effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a way that is easily understandable.
Professional Growth
  • Participate in professional development activities, staying current with industry best practices and emerging financial trends.
  • Express a commitment to continuous improvement and demonstrate the ability to adapt to evolving financial challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grade 12/Matric
  • Accounting Qualification (B.Comm/B.Acc)
  • Registration with a Professional Association
  • Advanced Certificate in Excel and Word
  • Proficiency Certificate for Pastel
  • Completed SAICA Articles of Clerkship will be an added advantage
REQUIREMENTS:
  • At least five-year post articles accounting experience
  • Good computer skills - Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and Access
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good administrative and organising skills - prepare reports, presentations and documents
  • Knowledge and understanding of accounting and bookkeeping
  • Ability to multitask
  • Bilingualism an advantage
  • Excellent time management to meet deadlines
