Job Summary Based East Rand. Due to the retirement of the existing incumbent, this position has become available in an Industrial Subsidiary of a local Group Holding Company that has several fellow Subsidiaries which are all in the manufacturing sector. This Company is a leading Supplier of specialised industrial minerals in South Africa and has been servicing the needs of both local and Sub-Saharan customers for many decades. It supplies more than 70 different products to a wide range of industries and exports to Sub-Saharn Africa as well as marketing a range of specialised industrial mineral and other products that are sourced both locally and internationally. It owns a number of small Mines where it obtains its raw material which is transported to Jhb and processed (milled) at their plant. It is fully accredited with various certifications and has their own R & D Department, as it continuously strives to improve product performance, process improvements and is able to create products according to their customers specific needs. The primary role of the Financial Manager (which is an Executive position) and reports to the MD, is to professionally manage the financial affairs of this smallish Group which has 3 Subsidiaries BEE Trust, 6 small Mines and a registered Company in Mozambique which all needs to be consolidated into this Holding Company which consists of the plant and all the supporting functions (finance, sales & marketing, factory, logistics & distribution, human resources etc). As the MD is a fully qualified Engineer and from an operational background, he is dependent on this candidate to advise on all financial and commercial aspects including business direction. Key performance areas, inter alia, include: Manage, mentor and direct the staff in the Financial Department consisting of Financial Accountant (who supervises Creditors & Debtors Clerks), Inventory Administrator (who supervises Inventory Clerk) and Buyer (who supervises Storeman & Driver), all of whom are very competent and highly motivated. Therefore, it is a very lean Dept and the candidate needs to be extremely hands-on and involved in the day to day management, All the buinesses in the Group use Syspro which is in the cloud and where there is a central server but the Financial Manager will be the custodian for the Company. There are other packages as well including specialised software used for reporting to the ultimate Holding Company. Although the "nuts and bolts" of the standard costing system, Bill of Materials, factory variances, inventory including stocktakes & costing are done by the Financial Accountant and Inventory Administrator, nevertheless, the Financial Manager will be fully responsible for the correctness and accuracy of these figures, e.g. that the standards are updated accurately on a monthly basis, signs off the stock takes together with the MD (this includes stocktakes at the Mines as well as in the factory and warehouse). Oversee all the Statutory Returns completed by the Financial Accountant including VAT, PAYE, etc. and be fully involved in preparing all the numbers required for Provisional Tax and Year-End Tax and then given to the Auditors to finalise. It should be noted that all the accounting for the Mozambique Company is completed at the office in Jhb which are then sent to an Accounting Firm in Mozambique to prepare including for the necessary local statutory requirements. Emphasis is focused on Forecasting, in particular, after the Annual Budget is prepared and which can take a number of months to do. In addition, cash flow management is critical in the Company for their business cycle at this point in time. The usual monthly financial statements including management reports and information needs to be prepared under very strict deadlines, noting there is the usual daily, weekly and monthly pressure to deliver timeously. Furthermore, the Group Financial Executive based at the Group Cororate Head Office is also demanding of ongoing financial and commercial information. It is expected that the Financial Manager will be able to do financial modelling so as to prepare management information and a variety of management reports using advanced Excel for discussion at the monthly MANCO meetings. Annual Audit needs to be managed, supervised and prepared which is always detailed (and has just been completed for the February 2024 year end). Requirements: CA (SA) or CiMA and must have a very strong manufacturing background with an excellent grasp of standard costing, Bill of Materials, inventory management, etc. and has held a Senior Financial Management position for between 5 to 10 years. Strong ERP experience & information systems generally. If the candidate had a good grasp of Syspro, it would definitely be recommended.
