Here at ParkerSteel Ltd we have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team reporting to the Finance Manager at our satellite office in Durban.
You will be working on a full time, permanent basis, 37.50 hours per week between the hours of 09:30am and 18.00pm SA time, depending on Shift Pattern and time of year.
You will receive a competitive salary between R30,000.00 to R35,000.00 per month depending on qualifications and experience.

Main Purpose of the Job:
To support the delivery of an effective and efficient finance function within the Finance Department. The role covers a broad range of responsibilities including, but not limited to, purchase ledger, banking transactions and reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end processes.
While the role involves core transactional duties, it also encompasses higher-level financial and management accounting tasks. These include balance sheet management, preparation of month-end journals, contribution to management accounts, and participation in ad hoc projects or process improvement initiatives.
Following appropriate training in internal systems and procedures, this role will be expected to provide cover for the Finance Manager during periods of absence.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As with all jobs there may be times when you will be expected to take on duties outside those listed.
Purchase Ledger:-
To process/trouble-shoot non-standard invoices daily (approx. 20% of invoices), ensuring accuracy and completeness (including allocation of VAT), checking that they are correctly authorized and liaising with buyers to resolve any queries.
To set up new supplier accounts for Buyers.
To maintain Supplier details / payment terms / etc. on the Purchase Ledger Supplier Master File.
To check supplier statements against the Purchase Ledger and reconcile where required identifying missing invoices or other differences and to take action to correct.
Banking:-
To post, and reconcile all bank account transactions on bank accounts
Management of Direct Debit payments and suppliers including obtaining and logging invoices, managing related ledgers and maintaining the Direct Debit schedule.
Balance Sheet:-
Review of balances, transactions and reconciliations for delegated balance sheet accounts.
Updating master balance sheet file with updated reconciliations.
Reconciliation of discounting/factoring account (with training).
Monthly maintenance of fixed asset register.
Other:-
Raising monthly manual invoices to certain suppliers and intercompany.
Preparation and processing of journals (accruals and prepayments) at month end.
Reconciliation of intercompany Debtors/Creditors.
Providing general support to the Finance Manager for month end tasks.
Assist with year-end audit.
To provide holiday cover for other team members as and when required.
Other ad hoc tasks as required by the business.
What we are looking for:
Must have a degree - BCom accounting degree -essential
Post articles 1-3 years
Accuracy, strong numerical skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritise, organise and manage time efficiently
Ability to take ownership of an area and initiate improvements/efficient changes where possible
Ability to work in a fast-paced organisation
Positive and friendly personality
Good Excel and other MS Office skills, finance software training will be provided
Experience beyond a purely transactional role (i.e. Financial/Management accounting aspects)
