Job Description


Born out of a national convention to draft the first national strategic plan for AIDS, NACOSA is now a leading national civil society organisation working collectively to build stronger, more equal, and healthy communities free from the burden of HIV. We do this by strengthening community systems, mobilising and managing resources, facilitating networking and collaborations, providing and enabling access to services and advocating, learning and sharing widely.

NACOSA works at all levels across the country xe2x80x93 from international donor agencies, the corporate sector and national government, right through to sub-district services and small, community groups. Strengthening Community systems for NACOSA focuses on building networks on Community Based Organisations and Community Leadership.

The duties and responsibilities of the Financial Accountant will include, but not limited to:

  • Ensure accurate financial records are being prepared and maintained in accordance to accounting principles, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Perform regular account reconciliations to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate account balances
  • Escalate unresolved payment billing issues
  • Analyse all financial data and provide insight to trends, variances, and key performance indicators
  • Support management decision-making by providing financial analysis and business case evaluations
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations and stay updated on changes in tax legislation.
  • Prepare and file accurate and timely tax returns, including income tax and value-added tax.
  • Assist in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations, and resolve discrepancies or issues identified from reconciliations or audits
  • Improve accounting processes and contribute to overall process optimization initiatives and participate in the evaluation and implementation of new financial systems and upgrades
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, auditors, tax advisors and regulatory agencies and collaborate with internal stakeholders to address all accounting related issues
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related field.
  • Must have completed articles/accounting traineeship towards professional membership such as professional accountant (SAIPA/CIMA).
  • A minimum of 3 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as a management accountant in a project accounting environment.
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and tools, including excel and other financial management software.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards, donor requirements, and regulatory framework applicable to non-profit organisations advantageous
  • Up to date knowledge of current trends and practices relating to finance
  • Accounting-from initial source document, through to financial reporting, knowledge of double entry bookkeeping is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to manage conflict and maintain good relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office & ERP systems (SAP and NetSuite would be advantageous).
  • Microsoft Excel (Advanced) Macros, Power Query, Pivot Tables, Power Pivot, Lookups, Dashboards
  • Valid driversxe2x80x99 license, own reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel from time to time.
