Job Description

Malander is on the lookout for a driven, immediately available Chartered Accountant to step into the role of Financial Accountant! Reporting directly to the Head of Accounting, this role offers the chance to take ownership of critical accounting functions, from maintaining robust financial controls and driving the month-end close, to ensuring accuracy of the general ledger through to trial balance. You'll play a key role in supporting compliance and financial reporting, while applying sharp technical expertise and sound judgment to deliver results under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain robust financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly evaluate and recommend enhancements to internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
  • Assist in executing internal financial controls testing and support-related processes as directed.
  • Prepare documentation and provide support during internal and external audit activities to ensure compliance and timely completion.
  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Perform detailed general ledger maintenance, including reviewing and reconciling transactions to ensure financial data integrity.
  • Verify and reconcile all inter-company transactions to ensure accuracy and proper elimination where applicable.
  • Take full responsibility for the general ledger process through to trial balance, including the preparation and review of bank reconciliations, promptly addressing and resolving discrepancies to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Execute the month-end close process efficiently to meet the Group's reporting deadlines.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality financial information for local management and Head Office reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and submit accurate tax calculations and returns, including monthly VAT submissions, in line with statutory requirements and within required timelines.
  • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the annual budgets, including CAPEX, OPEX, and turnover.
  • Perform detailed monthly variance analysis by comparing actual financial results against budgets and forecasts.
  • Identify key variances, investigate underlying causes, and provide insightful explanations to support management decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • CA(SA)
  • BCom Honours Degree in Accounting or similar
  • Minimum of 4 years post-articles experience in financial accounting or reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, VAT legislation, and internal control frameworks.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
