Our Greenside Operation has an exciting opportunity for a Financial Accountant to take on the responsibility for the financial reporting including the preparation of financial statements. Your role will also include supporting the Thungela Group Finance team to meet all governance, regulatory and statutory requirements.

Thungela Resources [Thungela means xe2x80x9cto ignitexe2x80x9d in isiZulu] is a leading South African thermal coal business, focused exclusively on thermal coal production. It is one of the largest pure-play producers and exporters of thermal coal in South Africa based on aggregate coal reserves and marketable coal production. Thungela focuses on exporting its thermal coal portfolio mainly to the Indian, Asian, Southeast Asian, Middle East and North African markets.



You will focus on but not limited to compiling financial statements for the company in line with the Thungela accounting policies and practices and the relevant accounting standards, ensuring timeous forecasting, as well as monthly costing per cost centre.

More of your responsibilities will include:

  • Compiling and submitting financial statements adhering to the Thungela accounting policies and practices and that are in line with the relevant accounting standards.
  • Assisting in the preparation of budget, forecast and MOP information.
  • Preparing additional reports as required, including those related to subsidiaries and other investments, information related to the MOP process and other ad-hoc requests.
  • Performing ad-hoc analysis as required on significant transactions, identification and reporting of trends and unusual movements as well as SAP reconciliations.
  • Developing or enhancing forecast templates for financial reporting system uploads.
  • Reconciling financial systems to ensure accurate mapping and loading (SAP, HFM, Ramesys etc.)
  • VAT Preparation, Reconciliation, and submission.
  • Compiling statutory returns (COM Return, DMRE Report)
  • Identifying areas of improvement in current processes as well as improved cost and commercial management
  • Managing key stakeholder relationships, meaning understanding requirements and delivering on their needs timeously
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in in accounting or related Finance field
  • Registered with SAICA CA (SA) advantageous
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a financial reporting, month end close and forecasting field.
  • Previous experience in a Coal Mine environment (advantageous)
Additional Information
  • Drivers Licence
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant accounting standards and legislation applicable to financial accounting
  • VAT Act
  • Proficient knowledge on IFRS Standards
  • Proficient knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
  • Proficient knowledge of Financial Accounting incl. budgeting and forecasting
  • Proficient knowledge of Financial Reporting IM Systems including, but not limited to SAP, HFM and Ramesys
