This role is based at the GIZ South Africa, Lesotho and eSwatini Country Office in Pretoria and forms part of the core Finance Unit.
The position offers a 24-month contract, reporting directly to the Head of Unit: Finance. The successful candidate will also provide support to fellow Finance Specialists through rotation and deputising where needed, ensuring continuity and consistency in service delivery across the unit.

The GIZ South Africa, Lesotho and eSwatini Country Office in Pretoria is seeking a Finance Specialist to join its dynamic Country Office Finance team.

What You Will Be Doing
Core Finance Support

• Checking invoices for logistics, events, goods and services
• Verifying documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Reconciling invoices against contracts and ensuring prepayments are settled
• Managing financial contract files and maintaining SAP data integrity
• Preparing SARS documentation for VAT claims

Accounting & Bookkeeping

• Daily and month-end closures using WINPACCS / SAP
• Bank reconciliations and submission of vouchers for approval
• Supporting overall accounting workflows and queries via the GIZ Finance Gateway

Internal Controls

• Ensuring compliance with GIZ standards across vouchers and financial documentation
• Supporting internal audits and responding to queries within required timeframes
• Providing advice on financial compliance to projects and teams

Collaborative Contributions

• Fully deputising for Finance Specialists in invoice check, travel, and internal control areas
• Contributing to the development and digitisation of department processes
• Supporting knowledge exchange within a culture of transparency, integrity and learning

What You Need to Succeed
Qualifications

• University degree in Accounting, Auditing, or Business Administration (equivalent of BA or MBA)

Experience

• At least 5 years of relevant work experience in a similar finance role
• Experience with accounting software (preferably SAP) and sound knowledge of debtor/creditor processes

Additional Competencies

• High level of accuracy, reliability and confidentiality
• Comfortable working with digital platforms and adapting to change
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; German an advantage
• Strong intercultural awareness and a collaborative, team-focused approach
• Familiarity with GIZ processes is a strong advantage
