3. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To co-ordinate, manage and ensure execution of the financial function, including tax and treasury activities of the Global organization within statutory and Group reporting framework. Executes financial and dividend policy. Coordinates the processing of financial transactions, adherence to policies and procedures to meet short and long term objectives and regulatory body requirements within governance standards.

4. Key Responsibilities

Financial reporting and Audit
  • Manage statutory financial reporting for all operating entities, dormant entities and funding Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in the group to meet the requirements of the shareholders, funders, and regulatory bodies
  • Provide guidance and support to the accountants for financial processing to ensure accuracy of accounts
  • Review monthly reporting workbooks in detail prepared by finance teams for the finalisation of month-end numbers for inclusion in reports
  • Prepare large, multi-national International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) consolidation for inclusion in shareholder's monthly and quarterly reports
  • Compile monthly and ad hoc reports of Departmental and Project development spend for management review
  • Develop operational forecasts and budgets within agreed upon deadlines to accurately present the finance strategy
  • Analyse variances against forecasts and budgets, as well as other key financial metrics, and provides commentary to support senior management in operational and strategic decision-making
  • Manage the external audit process and relationship for the full, multinational group to ensure the smooth and efficient completion of the statutory audit requirements
  • Manage the relationship with finance teams and administrative service providers outside of South Africa so as to obtain the relevant and appropriate reporting information in time for inclusion in the group reports
  • Review in detail the Annual Financial Statements for all entities so that they are of a high quality and in a state for final sign-off within the groups reporting timelines
  • Design, implements and maintains key financial reporting controls to ensure compliance with IFRS and mitigate other reporting risks
  • Evaluate impact of newly applicable accounting standards and formulates opinions on technical accounting matters so as to ensure that the group's accounting treatments and policies are appropriate and do not put the organisation at risk of non-compliance with IFRS
  • Advise and manage the accounting treatment of derivative instruments such as interest rate swaps, hedges, swaptions and Foreign Exchange Contracts (FEC's)
Accounts Payable
  • Design, implement and maintain best practice internal controls around the accounts payable process to mitigate the various risks of fraud and error inherent to the function
  • Review monthly creditor and credit card reconciliations to confirm that the correct amounts are listed as outstanding in the companies' records
  • Manage the supplier payment process and provide final approval on supplier payments to ensure that suppliers are paid correctly and on time based on the internal controls set out by the company
  • Review and authorise the addition of new suppliers on the accounting system and banking profiles to ensure that only valid suppliers are added and that information is accurately captured
Compliance and risk management
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, those of IFRS, Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Companies Act, and SARB regulations to ensure that the group is not at risk of non-compliance with any of the relevant institutions.
  • Implement and maintain best corporate governance practices to minimise the opportunity and incentive for fraudulent activity within the group.
  • Maintain all insurance policies and supervises insurance claims processes so that the group and its directors are protected from significant financial losses.
  • Identify and assesses all business risks and report to senior management to facilitate the process of determining how to address risks deemed to be significant
Team management
  • Manage the performance and output of direct reports in the Finance Team to ensure that team members are working to their potential and contributing positively to the organization and meeting their objectives.
  • Manage and support the professional development of direct reports so that they continue to grow in their careers and constantly works towards self-improvement.
  • Maintain the Finance Team's morale levels to promote a positive atmosphere and build an affinity for the company and working environment
Accounting ERP System
  • Maintain the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and linked reporting software so that it is set up to meet the specific accounting requirements of the group's entities, produces the required management reports, and consolidates the group's financial information to facilitate the reporting process.
  • Maintain the controls within the ERP system to minimise the risk of fraud and error in the accounting function.
  • Liaise with the software service provider to resolve any challenges with the system in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage the process of additions and improvements to the ERP ecosystem so that it continues to meet the adapting needs of the organisation
Banking
  • Manage the companies' banking platforms per the applicable group company's delegation of authority so that the transactional needs of the group are consistently met and fraud risk is minimised.
  • Maintain relationships with the banking service providers to ensure a high level of service quality and prompt response times on queries and requests.
  • Manage applications to the SARB for Excon approval for foreign transactions.
  • Arrange foreign exchange deals for all foreign transactions to ensure a favourable rate for the group and that transactions are booked to be actioned on the correct date
Office Operations
  • Recommend and implement company policies relating to the business areas for which Finance is responsible to ensure the equitable and smooth functioning of the companies' procedures.
  • Document, maintain and enforce agreed policies for avoidance of confusion and maintained consistency over time.

6. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Degree / Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or NQF Level 7 or Advanced National Diploma in accounting / finance
  • Post Graduate Degree ( NQF Level 8 ) an added advantage
  • Two years post articles experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in finance, audit firm, accounting and/or controlling, in an equivalent position
  • Qualified CA
  • Multinational work experience a plus
  • Preferred:
  • Energy Industry
  • Commercial experience.
  • Energy industry background.
  • QlikView system.
  • Pronto Xi accounting system.
  • ERP system implementation.
  • African business experiences an advantage.
