Finance Manager: 3rd Party Channels Location: Based in South Africa, Johannesburg, Randburg Purpose of the Position: Responsible for the accuracy and management of content budgets, forecasts scenario planning, financial planning, and cash flow management within all applicable territories. Key responsibility is business partnering support to content strategy teams. Support the business units (ROA & SA) in analysing and improving financial results regarding 3rd party content deals to manage content budgets in line with the Groupxe2x80x99s content strategy. Attention will be paid to content cost analysis and modelling, variance analysis and compliance activities as well as business partnering to content executives. Key Performance Objectives
Content Cost Analysis

  • Review of Content Contracts in Synergy and ensuring the costing is accurately performed by the shared service
  • Calculate costs for acquiring rights, licenses, and intellectual property necessary for content creation.
  • Review and sign-off content invoices and payment calculations, including 3rd party advertising revenue and submission thereafter to P2P or in-country teams for payment.
  • Identify potential financial risks that could impact content production costs, such as delays, legal issues, or unforeseen expenses.
  • Monitor and track actual expenses throughout the content creation process, including pre-production, production, post-production, and marketing phases.
  • Provide strategic insights based on the analysis to inform decision-making regarding content investment, budget allocation, and overall content strategy.
  • Regulatory reporting input and quota tracking
  • Content inventory assessment and management (past due and expiring content, system costing errors, content aging). Work with the shared service reporting team to resolve in a timely manner and fix systems issues.
  • Supervise month-end processes in the content financial system/s and take overall accountability for
3rd party content systems in the group to make sure they are efficient, and processes clearly defined
  • Calculation of revaluation and devaluation journals related to Content Contracts
Foreign currency liabilities and foreign currency exposure
  • Calculation of forex hedging adjustments related to Content Contracts
  • Evaluate and implement hedging strategies to manage the risks arising from foreign currency liabilities.
  • Review of foreign currency liabilities and calculation of monthly journals, i.e. Third Party Content contracts

  • Identify potential foreign currency exposures, including transaction exposure translation exposure and economic exposure.
  • Preparation of the forex exposure forecast and submission to Reporting team for consolidation to
Group Treasury
  • Assess the potential risks associated with foreign currency liabilities, understanding how fluctuations in exchange rates could impact the company's financial obligations and overall financial health.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis to understand how different exchange rate scenarios could affect the company's financial performance.
Perform Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Provide guidance and facilitate the target setting, budget and forecast processes for assigned content, divisions and/or regions and ensure it aligns with Business Unit objectives
  • Present and provide final budgets/forecasts to executive teams at a GE business unit and statutory content level
  • Attend monthly finance meeting for results review with MCSA and MAH executive team
  • Review and submit consolidated 24-month Treasury cash flow forecasts
  • Review and submit consolidated 24-month rolling forecasts of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash flow statement
  • Prepare divisional performance reporting for monthly and year to date results against budget and forecasts and present to Divisional executive teams
  • Provide meaningful ad hoc financial analysis as required
  • Proactively partner with the business to identify and evaluate opportunities to improve bottom line business performance and ensure that change initiatives are implemented
  • Analyze the sensitivity of differing market conditions and subscriber rollouts
  • Coordinate content deal negotiation between Myriad, MAH and MCSA with considerations required xe2x80x93 this includes pricing evaluations
  • Liaise with the different CEOs and CFOs for mandate approvals
  • Provide support to the business (Myriad, MCSA and MAH) negotiations team
Support Finance and General Accounting operations and External Reporting
  • Adhere to reporting deadlines including month end; forecasts; budgets; half-year and year-end including taking overall accountability to ensure the shared service deliver on content related deliverables
  • Review schedules reports for half-year and full-year audits/packs
  • Review related month-end calculations as well as entries for accruals and provisions
  • Review monthly tax schedules for accuracy and completeness
  • Initiation and approval of SGA expenses to confirm validity and availability of budget
  • Prepare monthly reporting pack (financial, non-financial and headcount data, including financial performance and variance analyses of actuals against plans, forecasts, prior periods)
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Regularly update senior executives and the CFO on financial performance, budgetary matters, and strategic financial planning.
  • Collaborate with department heads to align financial goals with operational objectives, ensuring that budgets and financial plans are understood and adhered to.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as marketing and sales, to align strategies that consider potential currency-related impacts on pricing, revenue, and market demand.
  • Effectively communicate the potential impacts of foreign currency exposure to senior management, stakeholders, and relevant departments.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers and vendors regarding payment terms, invoices, and any financial matters.
  • Collaborate with strategy and business development teams to assess financial viability of new projects, acquisitions, and market expansions.
  • Engage with clients and vendors on billing, invoicing, and payment terms, ensuring clarity and timeliness.
People management
  • Manage the finance team to ensure effective delivery of business unit objectives.
  • Develop a high performing team by embedding formal performance development and informal coaching.
  • Encourage frequent knowledge sharing between team members.
  • Encourage innovation within the team and explore new formats or approaches to content creation.
  • Determine and analyze development needs for the team and ensure that identified training requirements are budgeted for and executed.
  • Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining appropriate compensation levels with input from Human Capital.
  • Create effective workforce and recruitment demand plans to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met.
  • Approve leave requests for team members and create leave plan to ensure adequate coverage
  • When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members calling on support from Human
Capital when required.
  • Resolve grievances raised by team members and escalate only if required.
  • Address the poor performance of any team member through the formal Performance Improvement program and ensure that continued poor performance is appropriately dealt with.
  • Motivate team members and ensure that their efforts are recognized.
Qualifications
  • Must be a CA(SA)
Experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in similar role, working closely with strategy, finance, legal and operational teams
  • Knowledge and experience in entertainment content acquisition essential
  • Exposure to multiple currencies
