This is a rare and high-impact opportunity to lead the transformation of Nedbank's Card Finance function. The

Finance Executive

will be at the forefront of restoring profitability and reversing declining market share across both card issuing and acceptance. Operating across clusters and multiple reporting units, the role offers significant strategic influence and visibility. The card business is undergoing a strategic shift, with numerous initiatives and business cases already in motion. The environment is rich with innovation and transformation, including the recent acquisition of a fintech company that presents exciting opportunities for integration and synergy. The Finance Executive will play a key role in future M&A activity and will be expected to shape the future of card finance through bold thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and visionary leadership.

The Card Finance team is relatively new and junior, with a deep dive project underway to uplift capability, streamline processes, and build a high-performing function. Job Purpose



The Finance Executive - Card is responsible for the strategic financial leadership of the Card Product areas, including individual and commercial credit card issuing, debit/cheque card issuing, and Acceptance. This role ensures financial integrity, drives profitability, manages financial risk, and supports innovation in the card business. A key priority is to stabilise the Card Finance function and build a high-performing team capable of meeting the demands of a complex and evolving payments environment.

Job Responsibilities


Strategic Financial Leadership


Partner with Card Issuing and Acceptance Product Executives to shape business strategy and performance, with a strong focus on meeting stakeholder expectations. Lead the development of business cases, revenue enhancement, and cost optimisation initiatives. Provide financial insights to support product innovation, market expansion, and inorganic growth opportunities (e.g., iKhokha). Drive strategic cost management initiatives, including oversight of RFP processes.



Financial Management, Reporting & Governance


Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and regulatory standards. Monitor KPIs and profitability metrics across card products, including issuing and acquiring. Present financial performance to executive committees and maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness. Liaise with auditors, regulators, and internal risk teams to ensure governance and transparency.



Financial Planning & Analysis


Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling for Card Issuing and Acceptance. Analyse product profitability, transaction volumes, and card-related fees. Support assessments of financial synergies from strategic partnerships and acquisitions.



Technology & Innovation Enablement


Support digital transformation initiatives in payments and drive innovation through platforms such as NedPay. Evaluate fintech partnerships and investment opportunities. Leverage data analytics and financial systems (ERP, BI tools) to enhance decision-making and reduce manual processes.



Team & Stakeholder Management


Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, addressing current gaps in senior finance management skills. Collaborate with product, client segment, operations, compliance, and CVM teams. Engage with external partners including payment networks (Visa, Mastercard), fintechs, and vendors. Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and delivery against strategic priorities.

Essential Certifications


Registered at South African Institute of Chartered Accountants Minimum Experience Level
8-10 years' experience in senior financial leadership roles, preferably in banking or card/payments sector. Proven experience in strategic planning, financial modelling, and regulatory reporting.



Preferred Experience:
Managing card portfolios, interchange fees, and payment networks (e.g., Visa, Mastercard).

Technical / Professional Knowledge


Strategic and visionary leadership. Strong analytical and financial modelling skills. Deep understanding of banking regulations and card industry dynamics. Excellent communication and stakeholder management. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change.
