Our client, a luxury private nature reserve and exclusive safari-style lodge located in the Western Cape, South Africa is seeking a passionate and professional Field Guide to join their guiding and hosting team. This role is ideal for a guest-centric guide who enjoys working in a conservation-driven environment and delivering intimate, educational nature experiences to discerning local and international guests.
This is a live-in position, offering a rare opportunity to work in a unique reserve setting outside of the traditional safari regions, while still delivering a premium wildlife and nature-based experience.
Description
The Field Guide will be responsible for:

  • Leading guided nature drives, walks, and interpretive experiences, ensuring guest safety, engagement, and education at all times.
  • You will interpret local flora, fauna, birdlife, and ecosystems, sharing meaningful insights that enhance each guest's connection to the environment.
  • In addition to guiding, the role includes hosting guests, assisting with lodge activities, and supporting day-to-day lodge operations when required.
  • You will work closely with lodge management and fellow team members to uphold service standards, maintain vehicles and equipment, and ensure compliance with reserve protocols and safety standards.
This position suits a well-rounded guide with strong communication skills, a calm and professional presence, and a genuine passion for conservation, sustainability, and guest experience.
Minimum Requirements
  • FGASA qualification or relevant guiding/nature interpretation certification
  • Valid PDP and First Aid certification
  • Proven experience guiding guests in a lodge, reserve, or nature-based environment
  • Strong knowledge of Western Cape ecosystems, flora, fauna, and birdlife
  • Excellent communication and guest interaction skills
  • Professional conduct and presentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Valid work rights in South Africa
