Lecturer: Visual Studies - Cape Town & Sandton

Core Purpose:

To provide Academic Leadership across undergraduate programmes in the competencies of: Drawing, Illustration, Concept Development, CAD and Visual Communication.

Core Functions:

The successful candidate will be appointed to offer their expertise to ensure overall academic delivery of the Visual Studies subject matter.

Conduct lectures Face-to-Face and online (when required)

Responsible for maintenance of teaching and learning material and delivering across a range of modules.

Use appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods.

Designing assessments, setting, marking, and grading assessments, and giving students feedback are all parts of assessment preparation.

Ongoing research and analysis to identify required updates and additions to the programme curriculum

A combination of analysis and reporting as well as hands-on application in order to ensure alignment to industry standards and academic relevance.

Ensure the subject area remains relevant to both local and international industry expectations and the quality of student experience is highly rewarding.

Review and manage student academic performance.

Promote multi-stakeholder engagement towards programme advancement.

Advocate for, promote, and advance the institution's offerings to industry.

Provide academic support, consultation, and guidance to students.

Qualification:

Minimum NQF level 8 postgraduate qualification in Fashion, Graphic Design, Visual Arts or a relevant subject related field

A Masters degree in a relevant discipline preferable

Experience

Lecturing experience in a similar higher education role at a tertiary institution

3 years experience in industry

Preferred Requirements

Strong understanding of drawing and fashion illustration principles (portfolio of work required)

Experience in mixed media

Fashion design process knowledge and experience

Creative and critical thinking skills

Visual communication skills

Research (academic, trend, conceptual)

Strong communication & interpersonal competencies

Related Knowledge, Competencies and Skills

Be familiar with higher, distance and online education.

Demonstrate capability to lecture, conduct webinars at tertiary level in an effective manner in the core courses stipulated.

Demonstrate capacity to design, set and evaluate assessments at the appropriate level for the relevant modules.

Ongoing communication and feedback to students, team members and programme manager.

High level of communication skills in verbal, written and electronic modes.

Proven high-level administrative abilities.

Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to teach and/or research programmes and the provision of learning support.

Use a range of delivery techniques.

Use of diverse pedagogy

Assessment design, development, moderation and implementation.

Student support and relationship management, effective and disciplined self-management, problem solving and creativity, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.

Comply with predetermined periods and deadlines.

Demonstrate professionalism.

Apply innovative and current teaching methodologies and principles that are aligned with the institutions pedagogy.

Work independently as well collaboratively within the team across the course.

Employ expertise through stimulating lectures and practices.

Proficient in Adobe Suite, Google Suite and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet and Email).

Excellent writing and reporting skills.

Ability to adapt to FEDISAs curriculum, methodologies and pedagogy

Ability to adhere to FEDISAs values and culture
