Job Description


An exciting opportunity is available for a dynamic individual to fulfill a role in our client's farming division.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience: Ideal candidates should have a minimum tertiary qualification, BSc Agriculture or BComm Agricultural Economics degree, and/or demonstrated work experience of a minimum of 5 years in managing farms with practical knowledge of farm row crops.

Summary: Plan, execute, manage, and report on the designated Farming unit in Lichtenburg.

1. Planning:

  • Construct crop production plans for maize, soybeans, sunflower, wheat, and cotton for designated farming units.
  • Make chemical- and fertilizer recommendations in conjunction with respective representatives and agronomists.
  • Build a budget for each unit covering all necessary scenarios within an achievable cost range.
  • Evaluate different input prices and farming practices for the most efficient production plan.
2. Execution:
  • Execute production plans within the set budget.
  • Oversee accurate and timely land preparations.
  • Ensure timely planting and application of inputs as per the production plan.
  • Ensure accurate delivery of harvested crops.
3. Managing:
  • Coordinate Farming Contractors in day-to-day crop production activities.
  • Continuously visit designated farming units to follow up, solve challenges, and monitor progress.
  • Manage on-farm stock with safe storage and regular stocktaking.
4. Reporting:
  • Frequent updating and reporting on crop progress.
  • Report on factors influencing crops and potential damage or solutions.
  • Report on the planned budget and any factors that may influence it.
  • Report on-farm storage facility stock quantities.
  • Report daily rainfall.
  • Complete, report, and update crop estimates pre-harvest.
  • Report deliveries into designated points and reconcile with reports.
Essential Skills:
  • Sufficient knowledge of crop farming xe2x80x93 technical and theoretical.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in administrative tasks xe2x80x93 reporting, budgets, etc.
  • Good interpersonal and organizing skills.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively with excellent time management.

  • Based in Lichtenburg, Northwest.
  • Reports to Senior Farming Field Manager.
  • Salary is market-related basic salary with Travel and Car Allowance, Provident fund, and medical aid benefits.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, preferably a utility (4x4/bakkie).
