Job Description

The Faculty of Health & Wellness Sciences seeks to appoint a Faculty Work-Integrated Learning Coordinator (WIL) for a period of three (3) years,in which the incumbent will retain 50% of their current academic workload, and the remaining 50% will be covered by the WIL coordinator allowance. The purpose of this post is to coordinate, oversee, and manage all WIL and Community Engagement (CE) related activities and needs of the Faculty and to serve as an operational link between the Faculty and the Centre for CE and WIL.
The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to support various initiatives, such as establishing new industry partners, attending advisory board meetings held by the departments, work preparedness and student placements, tracking departmental alumni, student chapters, and others. Only current full-time employees in the Faculty of Health & Wellness Sciences will be considered for this appointment. The incumbent will be located on the Bellville campus and support departments located on the Bellville, D6, and Tygervalley sites of offering.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• A relevant Doctoral degree. Applicants with a Master's degree will be considered, and candidates should be registered for a Doctoral programme.
• A minimum of four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher Education.

Recommendations:

• Working knowledge of WIL practices, systems, and modules.
• Working knowledge of WIL placement in the health sector and professional body requirements.
• Applied knowledge of policies, legislation, labour, and skills development relevant to WIL and CE.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

• Facilitate the conceptualisation and implementation of Work-Integrated Learning, Service Learning, and Community Engagement in the faculty.
• Curriculum coordination-infusion of the 4 modalities (work-directed theoretical learning, problem-based learning, project-based learning, and workplace learning) of WIL into all curricula.
• Provide leadership in the faculty on Work-Integrated Learning and Service Learning.
• Ensure compliance and enhancement in alignment with relevant institutional WIL policies and strategies.
• Monitor, review, and report on all WIL & Service-Learning activities in the faculty.
• Curriculum development support for WIL.
• Participate in Quality Assurance within the portfolio
• Liaison with Curriculum Officers, Teaching and Learning Coordinator & other similar units in other Faculties and with Industry.
• Encourage and promote Work-Integrated Learning related studies, research and workshops.
• Facilitate the development of scholarships for Co-op and Service Learning.
• Serve as a link between the Centre for Community Engagement and Work-Integrated Learning.
• Prepare quarterly and annual report for the implementation of Work-Integrated Learning in the faculty.
• Initiate, coordinate, record and market service-learning projects and other community engagement projects.
• Liaise with professional bodies and government SETA's.
• Serve as the faculty WIL representative at faculty committees.
• Coordinate/chair the Faculty WIL committee.
• Benchmark Work-Integrated Learning regionally, nationally and internationally.
• Follow up on student success.
• Facilitate Work-Integrated Learning-related partnership agreements and administer the faculty partnerships database.
• Source funding for WIL and Service-Learning interventions.
• Serve the faculty in various areas, such as graduate employment, projects, quality assurance, marketing and curricula review.
• Perform other functions as be assigned by Line Manager.
