Job Purpose
The Faculty of Informatics & Design is looking to appoint a Faculty Research Coordinator for a period of five (5) years' The incumbent will be responsible for promoting research, innovation and technology in the Faculty through developing research capacity and skills of staff and students in order to achieve the targeted research outputs of the Faculty; they will also be responsible for creating a vibrant and conclusive research environment in the Faculty. The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership and mentorship to support various initiatives.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A Doctoral Degree in a discipline applicable and related to the Faculty of Informatics & Design (i.e Media, Information Technology, Design, Urban & Regional Planning & Architectural Technology) At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher Education At least two (2) years' management experience Successful supervision of post-graduates to completion Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals Exposure in proposal writing and research funding applications

Overall leadership and responsibility for Research, Technology, Innovation and Partnership in the faculty with oversight from the Dean Manage general research activities in the Faculty (e.g chairing Faculty proposal defences; maintaining a database for research funding etc) Provide appropriate academic and administrative leadership Provide oversight in conjunction with head of departments to appointment for Adjunct Professors, Research Fellows and postdoctoral fellows Evaluate ConfCom and URF applications Chair Faculty Research Committee Represent the Faculty in appropriate Committees (incl. regional and national committees) Measure and report on RTIP progress to relevant stakeholder and institutional committees Participate in quality assurance activities Manage the Faculty research fund Assist in research policy development of the University Promote research development of staff and students Maximize education and research opportunities and support research uptake initiatives Liaise between the institutional research office and Faculty Coordinate research colloquia and workshops for the Faculty Coach and mentor inexperienced researchers Supervise postgraduate students Develop and maintain linkages with industry, professional bodies and promote community participation Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Dean Competencies
