Job Description

The Faculty of Informatics & Design is looking to appoint a Faculty IT Coordinator for a period of Three (3) years on a portfolio basis in which the incumbent will retain 50% of their current academic workload and take additional responsibilities for the Faculty IT Coordinator role. The purpose of the post is to coordinate the Information Technology needs the faculty. The person will be required to manage the strategy and operational requirements related to Information Technology in support of teaching, learning and administrative activities across the faculty. The IT coordinator will report on information technology issues and implementation in the faculty and liaise with relevant Senate committee and ICTS. Alert the faculty and relevant institutional units in the case where Information Technology services are disrupted or not available and to manage / facilitate any required corrective action in this regard and also support the development and implementation of e-learning within the faculty. Only current employees within the Faculty of Informatics & Design will be considered for this appointment.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A Doctoral qualification in an IT-related field
  • At least four (4) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher Education
  • Some record in academic leadership, research output and postgraduate supervision
  • A sound knowledge of operating systems and office software
  • A sound knowledge of software to support the education project

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Ability to design and implement Information Technology related academic development interventions
  • Development and maintenance of Information Systems incl. database infrastructure
  • Plan and implement Information Technology development strategies for the faculty
  • Communication and coordination of policies and procedures in the faculty
  • Develop and promote e-learning resources
  • Coordinate the integration of Information Technology across the mainstream curricula of all academic departments of the faculty
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to support various Information Technology initiatives
  • Ensure compliance and enhancement in alignment with relevant institutional policies and strategies
  • Establish self-access Information technology learning resources and facilities in the faculty
  • Participate in Quality assurance within the portfolio
  • Monitor, review and report on all Language and Transformation activities in the faculty
  • Implement and coordinate software applications in support of the academic project
  • Write proposals for the funding of Information Technology systems development interventions
  • Coordinate and chair the faculty language committee meetings and report to Faculty Management
  • Serve as the Faculty representative and participate in IT related institutional committees
  • Analysis of IT training needs of staff and student in the faculty
  • Development of policies, guidelines and practices relevant to IT
  • Liaison with lecturers and technical staff in the faculty about needs and support
  • Keep a Departmental academic workload (i.e lecture, supervise, research)
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Dean
