The Factory Worker is responsible for operating and maintaining packaging line equipment in a high-speed snack manufacturing environment. The role ensures that all products are packed efficiently, accurately, and safely, in compliance with food safety, quality, and hygiene standards.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesPackaging Line Operation
Operate packaging machinery (form-fill-seal, sealing machines, conveyors, labelling, date coding, etc.).
Ensure correct packaging materials (film, sachets, cartons) are loaded and aligned for production.
Check product weights, seals, and barcodes to ensure compliance with specifications.
Monitor line speed and report any stoppages, jams, or product flow issues to the supervisor.
Quality and Food Safety
Conduct visual quality checks on finished products (appearance, seal integrity, label accuracy).
Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), hygiene procedures, and FSSC 22000 / R638 requirements.
Immediately report any product contamination, foreign objects, or equipment malfunctions.
Assist in maintaining batch traceability and correct labelling for each production run.
Housekeeping and Hygiene
Maintain cleanliness of the workstation and surrounding area throughout the shift.
Participate in daily and weekly cleaning schedules (CIP, dry clean, allergen control).
Dispose of waste according to company waste management procedures.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
Comply with all health and safety regulations and wear the required PPE at all times.
Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, or near-misses to the Safety Officer or Supervisor.
Ensure safe handling of machinery, hot sealers, and sharp cutting tools.
Teamwork & Efficiency
Support team members to achieve production targets and minimise downtime.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and suggest process optimisations.
Assist with start-up, changeover, and shutdown of the packaging line.
3. Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent (Matric).
Previous experience in food or FMCG production preferred (especially snacks, cereals, or confectionery).
Basic understanding of food hygiene, safety, and quality principles (HACCP / GMP).
Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.

5. Working Conditions
Factory floor environment (noisy, temperature variations).
Shift-based work (day/night rotation).
Required use of PPE: hairnets, gloves, masks, aprons, and safety shoes.
Exposure to powdered seasoning, maize dust, and cleaning agents (with protective gear provided).
